If Rule 5 eligibility wasn’t a concern, then Guzman would be pretty high on my list of desired guys but I don’t think he’s actually in play. Super interesting guy though.

Probably not the prospect we’re getting, but Tylor Megill was promoted to AAA.

Probably not the prospect we’re getting, but Tylor Megill was promoted to AAA. I'd say that whatever remote chance there was, is removed by this promotion a day before the players change franchises. With the deadline, recognizing that there is a 6 month outer limit, I wonder if Friday was picked because 1) for older kids, it would give the Sox some playing time to see the players, or 2) for younger kids, it would allow the Sox to assign them to the Rookie league team in time to start the season. I'd venture 1) is the more likely plan, though I suppose that even for younger players, Boston would benefit from seeing rookie players like Dominguez at the Mets/Royals camps, and can just slide them into their camps and the GCL teams by June 28th.

I'm currently somewhat obsessed with Royals LHP Drew Parrish.
Coming into the season, he wasn't on anyone's Top 30 list. The only prospect list I found him on belonged to Fangraphs (#46), who wrote this about him:
"Parrish is a lefty with a pretty good changeup, and those guys tend to wind up having big league careers, even if it’s just as upper-level depth. His velo was on the rise just before the 2019 draft, averaging just over 90 mph for the first time in his career, but in the postseason he was back to 87-91 when he had to rely more on his secondary stuff. That’s probably the approach he’ll need to take going forward, as both his changeup and curveball are better offerings than the heater."
He's yet to give up a run in High A so far this year (15.2 IP), with a WHIP of 0.511, and 13.2 K/9. He started as Asa Lacy's mop up guy, but performed so well that he earned a start, where he threw four no-hit innings while striking out nine.
He got named to the US Olympic Qualifying Team with Casas and Duran. He'd be a guy I'd be pretty interested in if he becomes available.

Have no idea who it will be but basing my prediction on Bloom’s MO. Expect a high ceiling guy who has underachieved. Of course, the Sox think they know how to fix him. Bloom should be on Wall Street. 10 bagger or bankruptcy..

Super good intel:) but oh well, a few guys on Mets Twitter are speculating that mark vientos is the PTBNL from the mets because he’s been left off the roster the last two days. Interesting to think about because he’s essentially the lesser version of Baty who is having a good year. Food for thought:)

Makes sense for where he ranks in Mets system, where Lee ranks, and for what Red Sox are rumored to get. He wouldn’t be a bad get at all!

Food for thought:) He went to the same high school as Casas, so it's conceivable he's been on the Sox' radar for a while. Also a high exit velo guy, so he would fit the "advanced stats-approved" mold.

Super-unlikely: 2020 2nd round draftee and pre-draft TJ RHP J.T. Ginn just pitched his first professional game for the St Lucie Mets. Seems unlikely, but for Mets in 2021 to trade future value for a CF their ex-Sox GM really likes who can contribute right away is not crazy. "We'll give you a near-MLB-ready CF for that TJ guy if you throw in another arm and let us make the TJ a PTBNL until we see how he is throwing in June."
Contradicted by the early claim that no PTBNL would be a top ten guy.

Are we sure its going to be today? I thought they had until the end of the season.
Anyways I'd be stunned if its a top 10 player in the Mets system. Probably a couple of pitching lottery tickets. But whoever they get is going to have to turn out pretty damn good to salvage trading Benny at his lowest possible value. If they were looking for hitting out of this they probably just keep Lee.

PSA: once the players get announced, please use the other thread to discuss them and the trade overall. This thread was purely for speculating on who the PTNBLs will be. Thanks!

And it’s guessed not for sure. To many people are hanging hats on an assumed comment taken 2 months ago roughly. For example: Alek marsh was ranked in the 20’s 2 months ago. Fangraphs now has him in the Kansas City top 4! So who knows where this will go and what players we get. Will be a fun day to add some quality talent to the system, who just might be much more than quality. This trade was all about adding depth to the system. That was confirmed just this week in a quote. Let’s see just who that depth is without assumptions

I was looking closer at Mark Vientos and I have to ask, is he that good a prospect?
I mean, looking at his numbers, he looks more like a future Ty Wigginton than a future David Wright.
His B/KK ratio isn't that great and his OPS have been middling.
On the plus side, he is a little younger than the competition and hasn't played at stat inflating places, so maybe that's the answer, but nothing really jumps out at me.
I guess they see a biggish kind of ceiling on him?

Power numbers are usually only inflated in the PCL. He's still young and would be an excellent return. If I remember correctly fangraphs had him rather high on the Mets list to begin the year.

Prospects TLDR: Vientos has huge raw power, but a see-ball, hit-ball approach prevents him from tapping into it, and his defensive ceiling is that of a below-average third baseman- Fangraphs "Bloom gave up Benny, and all we got was anotha Bawby Daubach?" I can hear it now

I can hear it now He's still young enough where you can fix flaws in a hitting approach. But it seems like he has the "hit tools" that translates more so than Daubach. He was also a useful guy for a couple of years too.

Mark Vientos would be a good get. Super young still for double A. Was starting to turn it on after a slow start this year.

I keep reminding myself that some of the prospects Bloom acquires will play for the Red Sox, while others (including possibly our #4 pick this year) will be part of a package someday for Juan Soto or the next Pedro.

Possibly. But I think the way the game is going these days you're going to have to evaluate pitchers differently. Guys like Pedro who you can ride deep into games with electric stuff are probably closer to the guys back in the 70s that would have high pitch counts and make starts when needed as opposed to the kinds of pitchers that the league has now. The league has changed to more of a kid gloves model with these pitchers and it seems like seeing a pitcher go into the 7th inning these days is highlight worthy by itself. Its crazy that Perez's 7 2/3rds was the longest appearance by a Red Sox pitcher in almost 2 years. Hitters seem to rely less on making contact and more on the 3 true outcomes. Which is also very frustrating to watch. I think one thing to look at in the future is how a guy like Verdugo fares vs someone like Gallo in regards to contract negotiations. It sounds absolutely bananas but I think prospects that make solid contact are now under valued as opposed to ones who hit the long ball.

As he said, the art of pitching has become bat dodging. At some point the goal is to stop this "air it all out for 5 innings and go to the next guy throwing 100.

Tampa wasn't the first team to do the whole opener bit but they made it popular. It needs to die the same death as the wild cat. It makes it so difficult to evaluate pitching. It devalues the importance of good starting prospects and inflates the value of swingmen and multi inning relievers. I can only imagine trying to do player evaluation these days and trying to figure out who would have been a really good SP in any era and who would make a good one in 2021 (which lets face it is 4-6 innings max) So I guess perhaps it doesn't even matter at this point who the Sox get as an arm as long as the "stuff" is there. I'd just rather them take on a highly projectable SP that is durable. Maybe they can convince the Mets to trade them the next Degrom.
