Owen Sharts to the Pirates to open round 13. Sorry everyone. The Pirates had the draft we all wanted...

White Sox took Chris Smelley the same round the Pirtates took Sharts, and the 13 yr old in me has to make sure I post about it. Henceforth the 13th round of every draft shall be called the Smelley-Sharts-Round

According to the internet... which is never, EVER wrong, Webb is another guy whose fastball touches 100 mph.

Sox are following my draft strategy to a tee. Draft only college seniors in rounds 11-20 because they have to sign for the $125,000 or play elsewhere. Additionally, take a few fliers on some high school kids who might accept 125k. They will probably also draft a T200 HS player who will want well in excess of 125K as insurance for the their first 10 picks.

I can't recall a draft with fewer selections that seem like will be developed as starters. Who knows though....maybe there is a Brandon Walter in here.

It's hard to get excited about guys who are likely not signing, and if were wrong it makes for a super exciting day in the future.

I'm thinking most of the pool money is allocated for rounds 1-10. Green could be insurance if say an overshot pick (Fabian?) doesn't sign and some $ becomes available.
Or I could just be pleasantly surprised!

Yeah, I think we could just see a bunch of HS guys the rest of the way out with the goal of maybe getting one of them.

Stupid question - would it be worth considering going to the 10% threshold this year? I'm aware it costs a first round pick.

The Angels have taken all pitchers so far. Someone mentioned this strategy in one of the draft threads, and this seems like something they have been committed to. I mean their board could have fallen like this, but 15/15 seems premeditated.
