Wow, what a freaking win while playing without 8 guys against a team which will undoubtedly win 100 games. Cannot be overstated.

Awesome! Came off the deck in this series. Left for dead. Is MLB ready for the Red Sox Covid-19 Zombie Apocalypse tear?

Unreal win. Absolutely macho. This season had many low points, but this is one of the best wins I ever watched. Just very collected in face of extreme adversity.

We were OK near Trenton - but lots of place really got hit bad. Glad to hear you and your family made out OK. Yeah u too. Thanks for asking I know a few who had substantial damage. Teteboro airport was completely underwater Somerset Patriots ballpark totally flooded (several rows up it looked like) too. Historically terrible weather.

That was a major major league win. Flawless. Great shutout pitching by ERod and Richards.
Richards is earning high leverage relief innings and a spot on the 26 man postseason roster.
That may be the most impressive win they've had in some time.

Now, all of a sudden, home field for the wild card game doesn’t look quite as far fetched.

Wondering, did the Rays lose their mojo thinking the Red Sox would roll over after the first 2 games, down so many starters? Reminds me of how we laid an egg at Yankee Stadium - seemingly losing interest when we got to play their spring training line up during their Covid-19 outbreak.
Can't take anything away from the battling Red Sox the last 2 nights. Would have been easy to pack it in falling behind in game 3. Now, unbelievably (but unlikely) they could take the season series from the Rays next week if they win all 3 games. Probably won't happen but just goes to show how fortunes and perceptions can change. Got to do good business against CLE first.

I just shake my head every time I look at the standings and see Tampa has scored more runs than any other team in MLB.

The game can be totally stood on its ear by good pitching. All we need to do is to hold the opponents to an average of two runs or less per game and we will be in good shape for the playoffs. Can Ottovino and Richards continue to dominate the ends of games? Can the starters all go six or seven? Easy, right? My fingers are crossed. Hope it helps.

Garrett Richards as a reliever: 13.1IP 10.8K/9 2.7BB/9 0.68ERA 1.66FIP 3.52xFIP 3.04SIERA 0.6WAR
His WAR as a starter (110IP) is 0.4.
Among RS relievers with more than 10 IP he ranks: 1st in ERA 1st in FIP 4th in xFIP 3rd in SIERA
If he can gain another ~0.3 WAR throughout the rest of the season, he would be worth what the RS pay him...that's staggering considering everything that happend with him this season...his FIP probably won't stay that low though...

Dalbec is up to .241 with a .765 OPS. I've been very encouraged by Dalbec lately and that what he's doing is for real. This isn't a week hot streak followed by dissapearing for 3. I still think he is the same hitter, who is flawed, who is going to strike out a ton, and who is going to have some cold streaks in him throughout his career. But just the length of his recent success has me more hopeful that his cold streaks can be just a little shorter and his hot streaks can be just a little longer, at least enough for him to be an everyday MLB player. I'll take that for the league min any day. I just wonder if he has a competent mlb 1b glove in him. I also wonder what a full offseason after a generally successful year might do for him as well. If the Sox have any level of confidence that his glove can improve I think he's completely played his way into 1B next year until Casas is ready. Not that I'm going to be shocked if they go out and pay a 1-year stop gap in the hope that Casas is ready soon, but given the hope bobby has gave us I think those resources can be allocated elsewhere.

Bobby has also been hot when the Sox have absolutely needed it the most, unfortunately, the suck has been too much elsewhere for that to really shine. And to be fair, some of that has been on the defensive side for him.

I was teaching Homer's Iliad today and we got to the part where Achilles' friend Patroklos has been killed and the Greeks and Trojans are fighting over his body, and the one who stands astride his dead body and fights off the Trojans is... Menelaos. Menelaos, shown often earlier in the poem to be a weaker fighter, who says things like "people say I am a weak fighter but I'm not," who volunteers at one point to fight Hector in a dual and his brother Agamemenon says 'Ah, bro, shouldn't we maybe pick someone else?" and whose masculinity is also suspect in the poem for letting his wife Helen be carried off by Paris. Menelaos! The one you would least expect to be the hero.

Richards has been filthy since the BP demotion right, so what is his future? Just so baffling how a switch went off and he is borderline unhittable, what is his value next year? These are the questions I have. Who is the real Garrett Richards, is he the perfect piggyback starter with Houck who seems great for 4 also. Give me Houck and Richards every 5th day and I think you have a top of the rotation starter. Although it might be better to have a lefty lined up as a piggyback guy with those 2.

I get how enticing this13 inning stretch is, but in the off season, people loved Richards. Then he sucked. Then he seemed to turn it around, and people were back on the Richards train. Then he sucked again. And now he’s… had a good stretch? Turned it around (for reals?)? And we are back on the roller coaster?
Hard pass. What did a great mind once say? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice won’t get fooled again?
