In addition to being bad at the moment Barnes is one of those pitchers who does best against aggressive hitters who will chase his curve out of the zone. Tampa's primary approach is walks and HRs.

Perez has been really good against lefties this year and you know he’s not usually going to be all over the place, makes sense why they went with him in the playoffs. Especially when he can also give some length Only way I understand Santana over Duran is defensive value. He’s been better in CF than Duran has been in a smallish sample. The gain in positional versatility is greater than the speed loss. As I’ve said before, though Santana is no Dave Roberts, he’s currently a more professional base stealer than Duran. Add that he’s a good CF who can play 1b or 2b in addition to OF after pinch-running or a double switch.

Don't get too worried about any lack of base-stealing speed. It's not like Cora is going to be giving the steal sign...The Red Sox were 29th out of 30 teams with 40 stolen bases on the season.

The Rays average attendance during the regular season was 9,513 per game. Time for the fraudulent fans to show up and pretend they were there all year. They actually have a decent fan base. They just don't want to go to the Trop. Build a nice park that's actually in Tampa that's easier to get to and more people will go. People say that, but if they moved it across the bay, they’d blame the attendance issue with people from Clearwater and St. Petersburg not having easy access to the ballpark. Forty percent t of the population lives on one side 60 percent lives on the other.

Yep it’s definitely versatility over being the better OF (Renfroe’s walkoff outfield assist was possible because of Santana’s god-awful route in CF). Also, he’s probably a better base stealer and has a proven track record of stolen bases at the major league level

That's not especially far, by the standards of dumb sprawly sunbelt cities.
The bigger issue is that they play in a parking garage that isn't even fun to look at on tv. Why would anyone want to spend time inside of that aesthetic debacle?

Generally, I believe it's unconscionable that MLB doesn't let owners move their teams. TB would be a revenue and game-winning powerhouse in Nashville, Charlotte, Raleigh or maybe even Orlando or Memphis. In this case, I'm fine with it because that's the last thing I want for these guys, but in general, it's moronic to hamstring owners ability to generate revenue and build the fan-base and then make the teams maximizing their revenue to subsidize these guys, Oakland and a few of the recent tank-artists through the Competitive Balance payments.

The Rays have had superior pitching and defense and an offense that scores as much if not more than the Sox.
I think the Rays will set the tone in Tampa and the Sox will fight back at Fenway.
On paper Tampa is better but I think the Sox will push them and they won't go down without a fight.

We're going to win this series. Well since Tomase picked the Rays to sweep I happen to agree with this take. They need to just move the Rays to Montreal already and get it over with.

Either way, whether they win or not, as either outcome is possible, it's been one helluva successful season. They beat the Yankees.

Without looking at ant Tampa numbers at all ... I think that if all the starting pitchers have median performances, we win the series. The concern is that a bad outing from E-Rod, Sale, or Pivetta would not be a surprise.
Well, it wouldn't take long to measure the consistency of each starter on both teams.

I used to live in Miami and other than the inconvenient 3 + hour drive west it was extremely easy to get tickets on the cheap in the single digits price range. No one goes to the games because the locals hate the placement of the stadium etc...it also is the worst stadium I've ever been to in any sport and I grew up going to old Foxboro.

Or the Tampa fans can quit being such weenies.

Rays rotation, last six times through. [] indicates the bulk guy in an opener game. Yarbrough Rasmussen McClanahan Wacha Archer Patino Yarbrough Rasmussen McClanahan Wacha Archer Patino [Yarbrough] Rasmussen Wacha [Enns] Patino Yarbrough McClanahan Baz Rasmussen Patino [Yarbrough] McClanahan Baz Wacha Rasmussen [Yarbrough] McClanahan Baz Wacha Rasmussen days rest: 7, 5, 6, 6, 7. He'll have 10 days rest for game 3.
In Patino's last start he was lifted after three good innings, and he had a 4 1 0 0 0 4 line in a pair of 2-inning relief appearances against Hou and NYY. I could see them giving him 3 innings in game 4 instead of starting Wacha. I can measure his consistency over the first 3 innings!

Yes, the Vet was a dump but at least it was outdoors with no catwalks so I don't think the Vet was worse then the Trop.

Versatility to play the infield certainly doesn’t hurt either
