They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Here we go!! If we keep these approaches and chase some of their young potentially rattlable young guys, who knows. I mean probably they will not win this Rays are very tough but I don’t think any of us should forget how tough we played them the first half, and even in that 4 game series in late august/ early September. We split that series when everyone assumed we might just get swept. Felt like a big victory. We dropped the last series with them 1/3 but one of those games, which I was at, where we squandered a big lead with Sale on the mound, was a close game that in some other universe we won.
I’m going to continue believing in this team until I’m actually watching another team celebrating on the field while our boys shuffle into the dugout.

Gettable, but Tampa is a REALLY good team. Need some good turns from the rotation to set up the Houck, ROBLENATOR and Whitlock death row. Play mistake free on defense and never bat without a plan. It's tough because they're an extremely well oiled machine with plenty of ridiculous talent everywhere.
That said, since we're here, might as well beat them.

Two rookies starting games 1 and 2 for Tampa versus a (relatively) seasoned postseason opponent. Obviously both guys are really good but this isn't an impossible task. Steal 1 on the road.
Gotta be Eduardo G1, Sale G2, Eovaldi G3 right?

Maybe we can get 2ip OUT of Hauck in a couple of games. One in TB and one in Boston. Hopefully, wins. Get it to Gm 5 and all hands on decks. With a day off headed into it. They're better over 162. Should be favored. Mainly, because of defense IMO. But, we've got a shot,

E-Rod, Sale, Eovaldi, Pivetta, Sale is how I would line it up. I'd love to see Houck be used for multiple innings at a time, especially in the Sale starts if possible. My guess is JD doesn't play, but think the offense shouldn't be much of an issue and can score regardless...I said in the other thread I think E-Rod is really going to step up with how much money is on the line and a great postseason could make him a made man. There's always that one guy every year that makes himself a ton of money in a walk year by going off in the playoffs, feel like it could be E-Rod this year. Think it can be an interesting series and I'm very excited for tomorrow. Go Sox!

If I'm a 7-9 hitter and I get hit by the starter then I'm charging the mound. Maybe get us both ejected. *Temple tap* #chessnotcheckers

Stickman! If Jeter would of made that play, it would be playing on all sports media 24/7. Interview his parents, little league coaches, even his High School teammates. But since it's Xander, then it was Aaron Judge and Phil Nevin's fault.

Stickman! I'm terrified of what Chris Sale's player avatar looks like.

When they talk about teams getting hot at the right time, the thing is you don't know who that is until it happens. Being hot before the playoffs doesn't at all mean you'll continue to be. So, people act like St. Louis is hot right when they need to be, but we don't know if that will continue in the postseason.
In other words, it could be us. And there are some encouraging signs.
Tampa is really good, but let's take 'em! Go Sox.

I am the Kyrie Irving of Tampa-greatness-denial. I am the President of the Flat Earth and Tampa Is Not That Good Society.
Unshakeable.
Sox win this series. Then, hopefully people say Tampa needs to do things the Boston way.

E-Rod is the game 1 starter, hopefully he goes 2004 Derek Lowe on us! I actually want Pivetta in Game 2 (don’t like him at Fenway) and it would probably be better to have Sale out of the pen to leave Game 3 to Houck, Game 4 to Eovaldi

Gotta have a plan for Nelson Cruz(even if it’s walking him a lot). I feel like his career BA against the Sox is approximately .800.

Gotta have a plan for Nelson Cruz(even if it’s walking him a lot). I feel like his career BA against the Sox is approximately .800. I see that Nelson Cruz did manage to finish in positive WAR territory for the Rays, with 0.2. Though he has been a below-average hitter for them (96 wRC+).
He was, you might recall, widely hailed as a savvy addition for the Rays, while the Red Sox addition of Schwarber (for less than half the prospect cost) was widely regarded as "doing nothing" at the deadline.

“This team just has a funk on it. It’s not enough to just lose, they have their ace pantsed by their bitter rival. From here on out cole will have this start shoved in his face whenever they play the Red Sox.”
Hahaha
