Well that's a pretty awkward BFFs situation between Eduardo, Bogaerts, and Devers.

It increasingly sounds like Rodriguez just had beef with the Red Sox and wanted a change.
Seems like one more person on an increasingly long list of players who don't want to play for the Red Sox. Not going to comment on why but this is an alarming trend.

Eduardo wanted good defense and knew it affected his performance last year. Here's your sign to go get a elite short stop. Counterpoint: Xander was a better defender last season than Baez was. Based off?

Name names. Don’t be coy. Seriously, aside from the Black player who are understandably wary of the Fenway bleacher crowd, I don’t know of any ‘increasingly long list of players’ who don’t want to play for the RS. There were intimations that all was not well between Erod and Cora, that Cora was fed up with Erod’s insistence on doing it his own way, resulting in very high pitch counts, draining the bullpen unnecessarily. That he was unhappy. doesn’t come as a total shock to me. His gratuitous comments about Raffy and X were unprofessional, and if I were a Tiger exec, I’m not sure how pleased I’d be about this. After all, in part he was brought in as an influence for the younger staff.

I'd love to go look at who was against even offering ERod a qualifying offer, because I know at least one of them is mad they didn't re-sign him for what Detroit offered.

Hopefully just a disagreement about his injury rehab that got nasty

Clearly not enough info to know what's really going on and something that could theoretically come up with any player... but of course it doesn't come up with many players or hardly any player.
I hope they work it out and he's back to being a normal player in his regular role soon.
Completely unrelated but it looks like Casey Mize is going to have TJ (per MLBTR). Rough year for a team that a lot of people tabbed as a dark-horse contender.

Interesting info Orion. Hinch taking the time to say it was inevitable. It will be interesting to see more on this.

Strange. He pitched very well in his first rehab assignment last week in Toledo - 4 IP, 9 K, 2 H, 0 BB.

Whatever it is, I wish the best for E-Rod. Hope he’s able to get it worked out and get back on a mound.

My memory is untrustworthy, to say the least, but weren’t there stories that he butted heads with Cora over certain issues? I have a general recollection that he did not take well to oversight and suggestions.

There have been a lot of super secret things happening with players making 8 figures. I also wonder what happened with Sale's "non-medical setback issue" a month ago.

It could also be something like a death or serious illness in his family. Maybe he needs to go to VZ.
Also, given that it's VZ, he might not want to let word out that he's going, which might explain the mystery...

Perhaps the Sox saw these Red flags in his personal life coming and opted not to make a strong offer?

I think that’s more coincidental than anything else. I hope he’s ok

I always liked E-Rod, even though he could be frustrating to watch. I always got the impression he enjoyed Boston and felt lucky to be a Red Sox.
Seems like the GM's comment should have included something like: "Our concern is for Eduardo and his family."

The GM may have made that kind of comment and the person posting the tweet simply posted a portion of the interview or comments made. It happens all the time.
