***WARNING*** Complete useless comment to follow. I have this feeling that Suzuki is going to be the type of player that either completely out-performs, or underperforms his contract......which I suppose makes this deal as insignificant as most.
Woah save those kinds of takes for ESPN!
Just kidding, love the disclaimer.
Seiya Suzuki would have been a fantastic fit in RF for the Red Sox! It is too bad he would not sign in Boston or was not offered enough, which ever the reason is that he is not on the Red Sox.

He would have been a perfect fit. Would have loved for them to have spent the money they spent on Story to get him.

I think we were all aboard the Suzuki train, but let's wait for his babip to drop under .400 (currently at .480!) before we declare he was a better choice than Story; we're only in the prologue.

Suzuki in April: .279/.405/.529 Suzuki in May: .214/.257/.357
BABIP of .357 in April only fell to .346 in May, K rate up from 27% to 35%.
Perhaps the league has made its first adjustments to him. Now we wait to see if he can adjust in turn...

OPS drop from .934 in April to .614 for May per the date of the post…..significant…. I wonder how the full season will look

Pretty surprised by how poorly he’s grading out in the outfield

There's about 7 people outside of Chicago or Japan who are following Suzuki's every move and they're all on this board. I hope you guys' unattainable high school crushes are safe...

You don't wanna know how much I know about missed fantasy sports picks... What's more fun than "what could have been"s?

I came out against signing Suzuki to a giant contract. What kind of a weirdo does not obsessively check up on how their hot takes are panning out.

My very boring offseason plan of just retaining Eduardo Rodriguez and Schwarber wouldn't have worked out too great. Schwarber has a 103 wRC+; the offense would have been marginally better than with JBJ but the outfield defense would be worse. Eduardo cost more and has not been as good as Wacha + Hill, and, being only one person instead of two, has thrown far fewer innings. It's possible that Bloom is better at being a GM than I would be.
I'm not gonna give him credit for Binelas and Hamilton, though, because I, too, would have traded Renfroe for something or other.

It is not about Suzuki !! It is about Bloom’s decision making !! If Suzuki washes out as mediocre then it is another feather in Bloom’s cap that he did not sign Suzuki…… Do you understand now??

I have wondered for decades why Boston did not sign extra players in the offseason and use them to harvest prospects. It is not that much money in most cases compared to the potential return of controllable years if the prospects are successful. That is exactly what Renfroe was. A cheaply priced outfielder with 3 years of controllability that netted an excellent defensive outfielder and 2 prospects performing very well in the minor leagues instead of trading the likes of Jeff Bagwell for Larry Anderson (who did pitch better than his number show albeit for only 2 months as a Red Sox pitcher vs. a HOF player for what 15 or so years). If Wacha and Hill perform well enough image another Pivetta/Seabold type return. The difference now is that there is a 40-man crunch, so the returns this year will be lower level, higher ceiling players that will not need to be added to the 40-man for a year or two. When the rotation is full with Whitlock, Sale, Paxton, Pivetta, Wacha, and Hill. Since Bello, Seabold, Winckowski, Crawford, Murphy and let’s not forget Houck will be knocking, then Bloom will have Wacha and Hill ready for the highest bidder!!😀

I do understand checking on him at the end of the year but not continually. I suppose if your crush marries the HS quarterback and they divorce a few years later, you can tell yourself that she made a mistake and should've picked you (if she knew you existed). But driving past her house every week since the wedding is not healthy.

Maybe you still obsess about your high school crush, but others see it as building a Red Sox dynasty and question how good is Bloom and how often are his decisions correct? The answer is that he has been right pretty damn often.

Just tired of snarky comments like yours, or reading stuff into posts that was not written or intended just because the view is different than yours.
