Eh, not really. They need the 40 man spot and it’s not like they’re gonna DFA Seabold. Feliz could have tossed 3 perfect and he was gonna get DFA’d
Very good depth arm to have though

They've got like 4 comparable arms in Worcester.

There are currently 18 pitchers (including pitchers rehabbing) listed on the Worcester roster. It is not like they are short on arms there.

Pretty clear that they called Feliz up because they knew the were going to DFA him after the game. Would've been interesting to see what they would've done if he dominated the MFYs.

I don't think that was the *plan*, but it was an option, yes. It became the plan because they desperately needed more arms and he'd just absorbed 3.1.

Do you really think there was a chance that he would still be on the 40-man come sun-up?

Feliz was headed for a DFA, but it could have waited until Sale comes back on Tuesday if the games played out differently.

Per Cotillo, Darwinzon is getting optioned for Winckowski. That means they need a 40-man move, and the only one that makes sense to me is Valdez, unless there's a surprise 60-day IL move.

Could it be Danish to the 60 day? He's been on the IL since 7/7 with a flexor strain and it was reported a week ago he's still just strengthening.

It's Valdez.
Danish hasn't even been out for 3 weeks. Putting him on the 60-day would keep him out until September 6. Unless there's some huge issue, I think there's a lot of time before he's a 60-day candidate.

Ort is ruthlessly knocking relievers off of the roster
Note: the good news is that none of the injured players are suitable for the 60-day

I'm genuinely disgusted they cut Sawamura over Brasier. Unless there's something I'm missing here, this just seems utterly ridiculous.

I just have a question
If Ort is already on the 40 man, why were both Davis AND Sawamura DFAED???

I didn't know about the option for next year. Still though, I really want Brasier gone too. It's insane that they're still treating him like a major league pitcher at all.

Not going to say it's all bad luck with Brasier, but he's had some bad luck at least. A guy with his K and BB rates shouldn't have an ERA of nearly 6.50. He has one of the lowest strand rates at around 53% and a BABIP over .360. Both his FIP and xFIP are 3.66 and 3.62. The defense has not helped him at all.

I know Sawamura has huge control issues, but it still shocks me that a guy with such a nasty splitter isn't an elite reliever.
Brasier's days on the roster are probably limited, but I honestly can't muster up any frustration towards ol' Tilt. I still look up the "Get in the box" clip and just laugh sometimes.

Sawamura’s contract escalators had already reached $3,700,000 for next year VS buy out of $1,000,000 I believe. Brasier may be one of the next as he makes $1,400,000, and would get an increase (because that is how arbitration works). The Red Sox will need the 40-man roster spot for the group of talented AAA players who will be added in September and the Rule 5s that will be added in November.

One roster spot remains - we are at 39 with Kelly addition and Sawamura and Davis cut.
German next?
