Bloop RBI single for Story could get him going.

All the chatter with concerns about the lineup, outfield, first base... we're six games into a 162 game schedule. Please show some patience.

Sooo good to see big hits from this OF, Bobby D, a weakened Trevor. Time to start enjoying the game.

Maybe ERod is cursed? Is that the genius of letting him go? He will just always have bad D, bad BABIP etc?

Gosh I hope that buys us at least a week's respite from all the whinging about JBJ... Especially as he is only 1 hit behind Hunter.

Meanwhile, over in Minnesota Kershaw's first start since looking like he may be done with his career is...well...Kershawian.

You would normally think that an analytically inclined GM like Bloom would love to have a SP with a good track record coming off of a season in which they were the biggest xwOBA underperformer (aka the unluckiest pitcher) in baseball. I’m curious as to what turned him away from making a real effort to keep him. Time will tell if he was right or wrong to do so.

The $70 Million boy didn't last long Is anyone really surprised?
He gave up 4+ ER 11 times last season. 5+ ER six times.
EDIT: nomar, this was one of the stats that turned me off to the idea of a long-term contract like DET gave him although I'm sure Chaim had much more sophisticated measures.

Maybe ERod is cursed? Is that the genius of letting him go? He will just always have bad D, bad BABIP etc? If he couldn't overcome the error in the last inning, that's mostly on him. The hits by Kiké, JBJ, and Devers weren't exactly cheapies.
I still think he'll be good for Detroit, but if he turns into a pumpkin there I may just have to stop questioning Bloom at all.

There’s no doubt in my mind he’s not worth 16 mill a year. Thanks to him our offense woke up. Hitting is contagious so hopefully we can keep raking!

Kershaw perfect through 7 on 80 pitches with 13 Ks. Naturally, Roberts had Treinen up warming before the inning was out.
EDIT: I get relieving him if it's a no-hitter and the pitch count is high but pulling a HOFer in a perfect game with 80 pitches is bogus.

Can't complain about a .500 road trip where none of the teams were the A's or Orioles.

The negativity makes me wonder if the people commenting are 80 years old and suffered through such an extended period of heartbreaking failure that even the tremendous success over the past 15-plus years can not erase the doom and gloom which inhabits their Red Sox fan brains.

There 7-9 hitters just hit Back to Back to Back homers. Must be a a hard life to be a fan of a team with a 300 million dollar payroll lol.

We're still in the shadow of the short spring training though. Guys still aren't stretched out, and he'd still need to go two more innings. I'm sure they'd let him keep pitching if it were June.

Nice get by JBJ. Even in a 7-2 game, that a big catch.
EDIT: Just ask Matt Barnes...

Well, he did blow up his arm last year.

3 changeups from Barnes that inning. Fangraphs says he threw that about 2% of the time each of the last three years

Barnes's pitch movement and spin rate almost on par with last year's numbers. Good to see, thought he looked pretty good.

Well, he did blow up his arm last year. Yeah, he’s “old man Kershaw” now. They need to be careful with that arm. Probably cold and miserable in Minnesota, too.

Well I'll be damned, JBJ showing some signs of life today. Maybe I was too quick to dismiss him outright.
