Franchy gonna emerge one of these days dammit! Get him up here for Shaw! We love First Base Franchy!
I like that lineup tonight. Looks rather ideal.

Benintendi was Dombrowksi’s “guy” so Bloom sold low on him. By far his worst move and I hated it at the time. I remember Guidas and a lot of others on this board did too. Hopefully Winckowski pans out (baseball trade values already values him more highly than Benintendi) and trading Benintendi allowed the Sox to get Ottavino and Germán who looks interesting. They also got Renfroe who they sold high on. So the correlated moves they made with Benintendi look fine but it was still a very weird sell low move by itself. I'm sorry but do you really think Bloom cared whether or not Beni was "Dombrowskis guy" and that played any sort of role in trading him? By that metric Casas is sure to be dealt since he's a "Dombrowski" guy.

No. I mean he doesn’t view everyone that way obviously but I think it explains why Bloom did something pretty out of character (selling low on a top Dombrowski pick) when all his other moves have made sense.

Remains to be seen. We also aren’t sure on the prospects that came over in that deal yet. If that’s his worst move, you’ll take that all day.

I think Bloom saw a corner OF with no power and mysteriously vanishing speed making ~$7m last year and figured he could easily outperform that. And he was right(forgot that they were essentially able to add Ottavino/German with the money saved from replacing Benintendi with Renfroe, too).

It is odd how personal people make moves. If any of these guys operated out of pettiness, they would not last long. I was not “pro” trading Beni (nor was I a strong “con”), but objectively… the logic was clear. And he sold low only in retrospect. A lot of people viewed Beni as toast. That is the risk of *any* trade… you like what you get, they like what they get, and sometimes they are right. I may not like Bloom’s approach, but I credit him with *having* one. Trading Beni fit perfectly. Nothing personal. And I have no doubt he’d be just as cold with his “own” guys.

He hit more HRs and slugged slightly higher, but Benintendi was a 2.1 fWAR player while Renfroe was 1.8 fWAR, so they were shades of difference. They also played different positions.

Um, wasn't Benintendi drafted by Cherington?

Rather have Verdugo straight up over Betts... especially considering salary. Anything out of Downs and Wong is purely icing and the cherry

I love Pivetta and he will be back to what we saw last year. I feel confident about that... however.... he is off to a little slow start this year and just doesnt have it tonight (cold? Short ST)
