The A's just need to move to to Vegas or something. Their teardowns are embarrassing for the game. The team they're putting out there is just about as bad as it gets.

Houck was warming for the ninth inning yesterday before the offense blew the game open, getting work in today.
I think Cora is grooming him to take on the closer's role for now.

Please tell me the Sox have 35 more games against the A’s.

I'm not real sure what Tanner Houck is going to end up being, but he clearly is built nicely for the longman role.

Great recovery by Franchy. Threw a seed to home, enabling Vazquez to cut down Kemp. He's had a really good game defensively. Not saying he's a GG.

Sawamura is really great when he pitches low leverage. That has value as long as he stays in low leverage.

For what it's worth the Red Sox season run differential thus far suggests the team should be near the top of the WC race. I guess the bullpen (and poor extra-innings) troubles have really messed with that. Gotta get that fixed.

Story up to a 790 OPS and on pace for a 5 WAR season
He's under his xwOBA by 30 points, after outperforming his xwOBA every single year before this.
I'm really rooting for the guy. He seems decent, and I like the clothes he wears. There hasn't been, and still isn't, anything that suggests he is worth 6/138.

Gonna be so weird when they ban the shift. It'll be a whole new sport. That Devers single was directly to where a 2B used to be positioned. It depends on how they do it.
Option A: All infielders must be on the infield dirt when the pitch is thrown. In this case, you could still have three guys on one side but they'd have to react quickly to a hard-hit ball.
Option 2: Two infielders must be on either side of second base when the pitch is thrown. Here you could have a 2B playing deep on the grass but the SS would probably play just to the left of second against a lefty pull hitter, so a bouncer through the box will still be right at a fielder but there will be a huge hole between the second baseman and the second-base bag.
Option iii: All of the above. If they do this, I predict that the league BA will go up 25 points and run scoring will go up 10%. Contact hitters with less power will get more ABs, meaning more balls in play, more baserunners, more action per pitch thrown. Pitching to weak contact will come back in vogue as fireballers giving up homers will be more costly with more runners on base. And the Dave-Kingmanization of baseball will finally be over. Amen.

Much like going to the universal DH, I hate HATE the idea of banning the shift. Want to beat the shift? Learn to bunt. Yes, I'm old.

I'd say his history suggested he was worth 6/138 and he's currently on pace to show he was, albeit its just roughly 2/5 a season but he looks the part and isn't exactly old. To me at least he's looking every bit the part of a good signing by bloom.

The Coors guys all do extra bad on the road because they get used to breaking pitches not doing anything at home, and then they're fine when they move to a new team.

He's away from coors and on pace for a season that would outdo his AAV. As I said only about 2/5 way through but so far so good on him. Time will tell but I'm currently liking story and the deal Bloom got him for.

I imagine that playing on a better team and in a better lineup will help his stats in the longrun.

Angels down 4-0 in the first 1 in their bid to lose 10 straight
Alex Bohm smashed a bat after striking out against this loser Angels pitcher and it ricocheted and busted him open in the face.
Red Sox are now the narrow favorites to land the #6 seed. Losing to Artie Moreno's Angels would be shameful.

It was never a major part of the game, standout lefty sluggers excepted (Williams, Ortiz, Bonds, etc). I think of it like the lionfish. Pretty when it was rare, but becoming an invasive species that’s strangling the game

He’s pretty much the exact player I was hoping he would be. He’s been the best of any of that SS group this off-season and he plays the way the game should be played. The only thing that will prevent him from being worth the contract is a potential injury because he’s the kind of guy who is going to get the most out of his talent. He’s a gamer. He’s already knocked in 40 runs and the calendar just flipped to June a couple days ago
