Red Sox have the second best run differential in the AL after tonight. Somehow it is less than half what the Yankees is.

Too late for the Red Sox to petition for a move to the AL West division? The A’s and mariners can do wonders for a pitching staff.

Great win. Will miss the AL Weak teams when they don't play them anymore. Honestly, I can't think of any reason why the Astros shouldn't win 115 games this season once they start playing their division heavily. It's so bad. I just hope that only one team asserts itself in the Central and takes the division, because that's a weak division. The White Sox should be better, but just aren't. And I'm not sure Cleveland is any great shakes. It is entirely possible to finish 4th in the East and make the playoffs, as long as they don't get slaughtered by the rest of the divison, which is the big if so far. But it is certainly much better to be 34-29 than 10-19.

I'm used to seeing the teams with the most runs scored in the AL but you have the Mets number 1, the Yankees number 2, then 5 more NL teams, and then finally the Sox at number 8.

Good to see the Red Sox connect for more homers over the last few series. At 62, they have now passed the Rays and are sitting in 9th(!) place for homers in the AL. They are, by far, in first place in doubles with 151.
Here is an interesting MFY stat - they are first by far in homers with 100, yet have hit far fewer doubles (85) than the Red Sox. In fact the MFY rank 13th(!) in the AL in doubles (only the Tigers and Rangers have hit fewer). I guess it would be easy to assume in a more neutral park than Yankee Stadium a number of those Yankee homers would be doubles (or outs). It would be interesting compare the teams' road offensive numbers to perhaps get a more unbiased look at their offenses.

Red Sox home: .323 OBP/.451 SLG Red Sox road: .314 OBP/.387 SLG
It's a bigger split for the Red Sox, actually.

Ugh. that was ugly and that hurts !! Glad I wasn't watching...Rich may be over that proverbial hill. He does not give me confidence. Perhaps when Sale gets back Rich can go to long relief.

Speaking of Story, he desperately needs a day off or something. Brutal stretch at the plate and now he’s starting to make mistakes in the field. Looks like he’s in his own head.

Duran is having a really nice day. Bunt, rope, good catch. They really have to let him play some. It is time.

The whole rally started because Story completely misplayed a pop up. Tough to pin that inning on him. Hill's allowed 6 hits in 4 innings to one of the worst offensive teams in the league and has been pretty mediocre all season. Move Hill to the pen and call up Seabold. There is literally no reason to keep hill in the rotation. We have options. Pretty soon Bello could be one as well. Time to start shuffling out the mediocre, underperforming vets and give the young guys a shot. I'd also make the following moves: Plawecki out, Wong in Brasier out, German in, Sawamura out, Politi in Refsnyder/Franchy out, Fitzgerald in.

I’m not saying he should be long for the rotation, but today isn’t the best day to make that argument. 1 hit was a pop up that Story misplayed and landed about 150 feet from home plate and another was ruled a hit on a weak ground ball directly at Story that he failed to get out of his glove. He’s pitched much better than the box score today.
