Here’s to hoping they draft IF Cole Coffey (Texas State) and complete the trifecta.

Note: after the 10th round teams can spend up to 150K without it hurting the team's bonus pool (it used to be 125K). That's not an insignificant difference.

I wonder if anyone has ever been drafted based on name alone. For example, the team has John Smith and Blaze Jordan rated as equal talents so they take Blaze simply because his name is cooler.

Hard to believe it’s been a year since the Sox took the best hitter alive in the 11th round.

I am stunned Jace Grady didn't get drafted. SH CF that had a really good Cape League last yr, hit 6 hrs. Struck out at an inflated rate this yr, but some really good tools, even if he's undersized. His younger brother is xferring in to DBU, so maybe he's told teams he wants to return to school. Walters is prob a pure RP, has a really good fastball, but doesn't really have a secondary, nevermind a tertiary offering. RHP Osmond has been on the map for a while, highly regarded out of HS, spurned pro ball for OSU, prob a reliever only, but has a good FB/Slider combo teams want, and honestly I think he goes early today. He is currently in the xfer portal. RHP Newell was another Top 100 prospect out of HS, but never his tools never translated into great production. LHH I believe Sandin announced he is going back to Oklahoma, which is surprising. Matthews is a lefty RP w command issues, but has 4 pitches, his change is his best secondary, and is a potential starter convert I wouldn't be surprised to see pop in a couple of years. Carter Young is xferring to LSU after a really rough yr at the plate. Struck out a ton, but was once considered a potential 1st rounder. I think he ends up at LSU. SH SS Long has big time power, but battled an injury most of this spring, he'll likley require a significant overslot to sign, and I think he prob ends up back at ASU, and in the top 50 with a healthy season next yr. RHH big arm for 3B I'm not a big comp guy, but Baez is basically Connor Wong. RHH Johnson is another undersized OF, but one of the fastest players in the draft. Former OSU xfer himself, and doesn't have a long track record at the plate. RHH Curialle was a top 200ish guy out of HS, but hasn't produced at UCLA, and I'm honestly surprised he's part of the top 250, even towards the end. RHH util Halter had a good freshman yr, but sort of struggled this yr. Is hitting over .308 w 5 hrs this summer in the Cape League, so maybe someone that gets an overslot today. LHH is playing SS right now too, after playing mostly 2B this yr. Some BA top avails: Eli Sauli #179 is a RHP from Sacramento St that has a good pitch mix, heavy sinker, but doesn't K a alot only struck out 65 in 88ip. Had a career ERA of 8 entering the yr, but pitched better this yr. Is 6'5 and has the toolkit to develop into a back end starter on a pro pitching program/retool. Tyreese Turner #189 Southern Cal is a SH SS- although below avg arm will means he's a 2B only, but lus speed, and gap power. Is the type of player the Rays seem to have come up and annoy you for a series. Is currently in the xfer portal. Brett Roberts #201 Florida State Has a long track record of hitting back to his Tenn Tech days, but average tools elsewhere. Likely a 2B only in pro ball. RHH Grayson Moore #202 Has been a RP only for Vandy, but good stuff, up to 97, prob walks too many, but was aa two way player until this year, so has the requisite athleticism to translate into a starter if he can clean up his command. Vandy made him scrap his CB, which was his best secondary. RHP. Nick Sando #207 Santa Clara is a LHP that, stop me if you've heard this before a potential RP convert. Doesn't have the big FB, but good slider and change up give him 3 pitch mix, with a clean enough delivery. One of my fav day 3 targets. Jake Brooks #217 UCLA RHP Another RP, throws a lot of strikes, sutff isn't elite, but has a 3 pitch mix with his sinker being his best. Was hurt for a lot of this yr when transitioning to a starter's role. TJ McCants #240 Ole Miss LHH OF had a big freshman yr to put him on the map, but not as good of a yr this yr as a draft eligible soph, likely headed back to Ole Miss. Alex Iadiserna #255 Elon LHH OF With a good feel for fitting, walks more than he K's and had a huge summer last yr in the Nortwoods league. Strong day 3 college bat IMO. Marquis Grissom Jr #261 RHP Has a FB up to 96, a good mix, and is ultra athletic, but likely headed back to Georgia Tech. Hasn't had good numbers, and likely wants to improve his stock. Carter Spivey #267 ECU RHP RP only with a really good slider. Had no success until this yr when he one his conference POY award. Surprised he wasn't a SR sign for someone yesterday. He'll be a Rays today. Sam Highfill #341 is a RHP from NC State that came on huge during NC States CWS last yr, like Villaman had his struggles this yr, but another name to keep an eye on. He's deep on BA's board. Of the P's I mentioned yesterday, I think the highest left is TCU's Austin Krob. He's #299

I wonder if anyone has ever been drafted based on name alone. For example, the team has John Smith and Blaze Jordan rated as equal talents so they take Blaze simply because his name is cooler. I'm sure it's happened subconsciously - more unique name, more memorable, sticks out more. I doubt it's ever been intentional.

1toolplayer , Alex Iadiserna was picked yesterday by STL I blame BA- they list him as available! In all seriousness, I'm glad because he's a top 10 round player for sure.

Going back to 2019 , interesting how much high draft capital was spent for middle infielders. Was hoping for an outfielder here or there.

Some more college guys I noticed on McDaniel's top 300. I appreciate you all indulging me.
Mac Horvath is a soph eligible 3B from UNC that posts big exit velos and power potential. Likely headed back to UNC, barring a big surprise, and will likely be a top 50 pick next year.
Ty Floyd is another draft eligible Soph from LSU. He's got a starters build, 92-95 RHP. Inconsistent change and CB, and likely headed back to LSU
Jacob Meador Dallas Baptist RHP is only 6' but has a really good changeup. Pitches up to 95 w his sinker, and a good enough slider. Could be a nice multi inning RP down the road.
Alex Williams in a Stanford RHP currently in the Xfer portal, but is a SR. He was Pac12 PoY that really struggled in the postseason, after having a stellar one last yr. Change is his best pitch, does have a 4 pitch mix, but needs a velo jump.\
Bo Bonds (no relation) is another undersized RHP w a power spin rate FB, started this yr and K'd 83 in 55IP but prob a RP only, but one that could move quickly.
Dominic Piolli Had a knee injury slow him last yr, and only hit .261 w a lot of Ks (had his BBs too though) but when he's right he's got a nice lefty stroke. Potential power and speed combo. Nice bat to bet on, former Charlotte xfer.
