When Bloom and company start adding for next year Sale can’t be thought of as more than a 5th starter type with his inability to stay healthy.

Maybe Sale should take lessons from our president so he can learn how to fall without hurting himself. Or it is the prez's fault for the fuel mess that kept Sale from driving!

Um, is there some hint he was doing tricks on a half pipe or something? Riding a bicycle is a normal, safe thing that people do. Guy is just cursed. Get well soon, ace. I think the likelihood that a grown man broke his wrist by "falling off his bike" i.e. not getting into a traffic accident, is much smaller than the likelihood that this isn't actually what happened. Once you build in his Florida man status, I'm assuming a dirt bike, or at a minimum a riding a mountain bike on a trail or something. Fine activities for 99% of people, but the 1% includes people who are being paid $30 million a year to throw a baseball.
Edit: After reading Speier's tweet I'm satisfied. That said, how hilarious would it have been if the Sox actually got under the luxury tax because Chris Sale voided his contract by getting injured doing a dangerous non-baseball activity lol.
Edit 2: Probably didn't help that his finger was broken tbh. He was probably palming the handlebars instead of actually holding them. I probably wouldn't get on a bike with a broken finger and I'm not being paid royally to throw a baseball.

My wife destroyed her wrist on a bike… not speeding, not doing anything unusual. Got stung by a bee on her face, broke with her front wheel, and that was all she wrote. You go off a bike at even moderate speed and a broken wrist is a great possibility.

I can't imagine doing more than a very short, easy ride with a broken finger. Hindsight is 20/20, but I take better care of myself than that and I'm not paid to pitch for a living.
Will fully admit part of my frustration is with the whole situation, though.

Sale's season: delayed because of a broken bone; broke a bone immediately after coming back; season ended due to broken bone that occurred while recovering from the previous broken bone.
Sumthin up with those bones imo.

Well fortunately cars are 100% safe and no one ever gets injured in one of those. Just make the players drive everywhere, I say.

an accident...but it doesn't mean fans can't feel exasperated with him at this point. I sure do, and I love the guy.

I just hope Chris Sale doesn't decide to get his pilots license in the offseason.....

Anyone still upset that we didn't buy at the deadline?

Between this, the other injuries, and the vaccine resistance, I’m pretty frustrated with Sale. Sale would be the 1:1000 who gets an enlarged heart from the vaccine anyway. We don’t need that.

No question, it's the worst contract in RS history. It's Pablo Sandoval's contract plus another $50 million. The worst part is that it seemed dumb at the time and D-Dom, presumably with ownership's blessing, did it anyways.

At least — and this looks grim — there is a teensy chance they get something out of it. So I’d say it *may* be the worst — it is heading that way.

I'm not going to say that baseball contracts shouldn't be fully guaranteed like football, but I do wish that as far as salary caps are concerned that the amount only counts relative to the number of games they played. So the players would still get paid but the team's wouldn't be punished by having to purchase players to replace them.
That being said with the 13th pick in the draft at the moment and 4 games to catch teams 11 and 12 if we catch them I will get Sale a fruit basket.

It's certainly trending that way, they've had so many high profile misses on contracts. Carl Crawford, Pablo, Hanley, Edger Renteria, Price, all guys they essentially paid to play somewhere else. I wonder if anyone knows how much the Red Sox have paid for players to play elsewhere in the last 20 years. It has to be substantial.

I'd probably be more upset if I wasn't already of the belief that the finger injury was the end of his season. Did we get good news on that front and I just missed it?
At least this is an injury to his off arm. Gonna need to wrap this dude in bubble wrap to get any mileage out of him on the back of this contract though. Been a frustrating ride ever since that extension.

At least Sale contributed to winning here at one point during his tenure, Pablo will forever be the WOAT to me. He failed because he’s a fat piece of crap. At least Sale’s body failed him after years of a pretty stressful delivery- not because he couldn’t put down twinkies. There aren’t enough bad things in the world that could happen to Pablo imo. Deliberately robbed our franchise of millions. And that’s what it was- robbery.
