Way to put yourself over the team. Been a huge help the past few years. Really? He was riding a bike! Its not like he broke his wrist doing MMA or something

Its not like he broke his wrist doing MMA or something I am a huge Sale guy, but after being made of glass since he signed his extension he shouldn’t be doing anything that could lead to him getting hurt. He can give up riding a bike during the baseball season especially when he’s already hurt. I’ll retract my comment because I don’t want to derail the thread, and obviously I understand everyone will have a different take to begin with.

That dude is seriously unlucky.
I feel really bad for him. He’s basically losing the last of his prime to some crazy injuries.

I wonder if they can void his contract for an injury during a non baseball activity

I am assuming this is a peddling bike and not a motor bike. In which case I am not going to criticize him for trying to stay in shape..... Frustrating that he would get hurt again like this. Any idea if the wrist surgery is on his pitching hand?

Um, is there some hint he was doing tricks on a half pipe or something?
Riding a bicycle is a normal, safe thing that people do. Guy is just cursed.
Get well soon, ace.

He wasn't coming back this year anyway and it wasn't his pitching wrist so it shouldn't really have any effect on his ability to come back next season but the guys just snake bitten at this point. Hopefully he can come in next year healthy and ready to go but even if he does you have to bank on him missing a chunk of the season anyway.

Especially seeing Sale's personality the guy is a competitor I'm sure this continual string of setbacks is killing him more than anyone else. I still believe he will eventually return to a mound and have more good seasons of pitching in him.

I could very easily be wrong, but I would bet there is more to this story.

Well there are over 130,000 bicycle injuries every year, but yes it’s a normal activity. Just like playing basketball is a normal activity that people do. I am not sure if it would qualify for non-baseball activity injury under his contract allowing a reduction or voiding.

That's terrible luck. Unless he was mountain biking on a dangerous trail or something, I doubt there's any impact on his contract. Nor should there be - it's impossible to completely eliminate risks. Guys have gotten hurt by sleeping on their shoulders wrong or slicing fingers while making dinner. Stuff happens.

Fortunately the Red Sox have made it clear they're not going down to the wire this year so they won't need Sale anyways.
What worries me is that this guy can hurt himself just sneezing. When planning the 2023 Red Sox, you simply can't pencil him in.
I certainly have no animosity toward him, but they simply just can't count on him being healthy for any significant stretch of time, so when you look at the starting 5 in the rotation I wouldn't include him. I'd just add him as possible depth. It's a shame.
It's been so long that people can forget how truly dominant he was, easily the most dominant pitcher the Sox have had since vintage Pedro. It's a shame. I don't think we'll ever see that guy again. I'll simply remember his last very noticeable flash of dominance, that 9th inning where it was obvious the Dodgers were beyond done in the World Series - they had no chance against him. That's the image of him I'll always happily remember. I don't expect anything from him in the future that will rekindle those memories unfortunately though.

Maybe Sale should take lessons from our president so he can learn how to fall without hurting himself.

Between this, the other injuries, and the vaccine resistance, I’m pretty frustrated with Sale.

I want details. Something doesn't smell right with this. The man who gets a fluke broken finger from a ball up the middle (this isn't sarcasm, I know this was a fluke) gets a fluke broken wrist riding his bike in a lawful, safe way? It's possible, but the odds of having two rare injuries like that when he's already known to punch things is pretty crazy. I want to know what the exact explanation is for this and how realistic that explanation is.
Yes, he could have just hit a twig and went flying. Just odd and frustrating.
