It's also CB having a bad hit rate so far in his trades for prospects. Downs, Seabold, Potts, Rosario, German, Hernandez, Wallace Binelas and Hamilton have all fizzled, fallen or failed to advance much. Neither Franchy or Winck, who were the first two guys from the Beni trade to hit The Show, looks like much of a contributor.
Call it bad talent evaluation or just bad luck because BB talent is extremely hard to project, but none of the prospects Bloom has acquired in trades look like they can be counted on to make much impact. The jury is still out on the other three acquired in the Beni trade and those acquired at the 2022 deadline.
That is not entirely fair, because many of those guys were acquired for virtually nothing. How much could we expect to get back for Mitch Moreland etc? I think the only way to judge is if we *lost* trades, and most of those guys do not represent losses.
ABSOLUTELY AGREE! How much was 30 days of Mitch Moreland in 2020 (Potts and Rosario), Workman and Hembree (Pivetta and Seabold) for 30 days…… I agree, Manfred! Benintendi on a downward spiral arb $6,300,000 for Winckowski….
Trading Renfroe to upgrade the defense was good, but JBJ for $16,000,000 was the only one I (and many on this site had a problem with)….
Many on this site blame Bloom for 2020 and for trading Betts. That is totally not on him. Do you honestly think that decision was not way, way above him…the new guy….honestly. The Red Sox were in the ALCS in 2021 (credit or no credit to Bloom as a lot of the team was already in place). In 2022 we actually started to see Bloom’s stamp on the team, but there were still constrictions (Price $16,000,000, JD $19,350,000 (5th yr start of decline), Sale $27,500,000 a DD re-signing),….). At least half of the credit/blame for 2022 goes to DD as well as Bloom. In 2023 the credit and blame will be on Bloom. It boils my blood reading blame put on people that it should not go on whether it is baseball or other things in life.
