The only real issue with DD is he flipped the prospects and made good deals. But why did the pipeline dry up ? Why couldn’t we have another batch of kids making there way to Boston. But he owned 2018 and he made a couple of key deals at trade deadline. Because he drafted like crap outside of like 3 players that weren't traded I'd say the drying up of the pipeline was more about the crap drafting under the Cherington regime (plus Cherington and Dombrowski's failure to add prospects through trade). DD drafts seem about average.

I'm wondering if there's a possibility that Bloom signs Yoshida to play LF and lead off.
He's a lifetime .320 plus hitter in Japan with a great BB/K ratio which makes me think he can hit .280 or better on the majors with some walks and a good OBP.
If so maybe they trade Verdugo for a RH hitting RF with power? I wouldnt think that their preference is for Verdugo to be in RF and Yoshida has sone pop but he's not really a power hitter and he might be a similar type hitter to Verdugo and given their lack of RH power maybe there's a trade out there to be had?

We can never forget the penalties that gave us no ordinary international signings in 2016-17 and voided our top picks in 2015-2016. www.soxprospects.com/international.htm

Yeah there's no single reason it dried up. It was the combination of Trader Dave, the IFA penalties, some mediocre-to-bad drafting, and other one-off issues (Flores dying, '19 first-rounder moving back). All of these things can be true.
You can trade prospects. You just need to keep the cupboard stocked (see Dodgers, Los Angeles).

That’s our only real issue we won in 2007 with kids . Then it dried up again. We have good prospects we graduate talented kids but the only difference we hit and miss but we have hardware 4 titles. 2 of them by our key prospects.

Would anyone else be interested in possible non-tender candidate Cody Bellinger for RF? Most likely a 1 yr deal

Downs, Seabold, Potts, Rosario, German, Hernandez, Wallace Binelas and Hamilton have all fizzled, fallen or failed to advance much. Neither Franchy or Winck, who were the first two guys from the Beni trade to hit The Show, looks like much of a contributor. Call it bad talent evaluation or just bad luck because BB talent is extremely hard to project, but none of the prospects Bloom has acquired in trades look like they can be counted on to make much impact. The jury is still out on the other three acquired in the Beni trade and those acquired at the 2022 deadline.

The jury is still out on the other three acquired in the Beni trade and those acquired at the 2022 deadline. That is not entirely fair, because many of those guys were acquired for virtually nothing. How much could we expect to get back for Mitch Moreland etc? I think the only way to judge is if we *lost* trades, and most of those guys do not represent losses.

Ture to an extent, but my point is that most, if not all, of those guys are ranked lower now than when we acquired them. You mention the Moreland trade, but Rosario was ranked 15th and Potts 17th at the end of the 2020 season. Ronaldo Hernandez debuted at 14 and Seabold got as high as 9. But you always want to defend Bloom, manfred!

But you always want to defend Bloom, manfred! But most prospects ranked in the 15-20 range flame out. Just look through the rankings history here. At a glance I'd say that a prospect ranked in that range at a given time has about a 1-in-10 chance of having a legit major league career. The rest eventually fall off like Rosario and Potts have.
The idea is that if you take enough 1-in-10 shots you'll eventually hit... about 10% of the time. Now if you take *20* 1-in-10 shots and miss every one, it might be fair to start wondering about the methodology. I don't think we're there with Bloom yet, among other things because we don't yet know that some of the guys you listed (e.g., Binelas, or even Downs) will definitely wash out. And like you said, there is inherently a huge luck factor involved. But if the system is still shooting blanks a year from now I will start to wonder.

Rules of the (drafting) game switched also a huge reason post 2011 boston hasn't done as well in rule 4 draft.. being unable to game the system and throw huge bonuses at multiple people way down each draft each year and get lucky often enough no longer happens.

Edit: Misspoke. Here are the ZiPS projections for 2023:
IP BB K GS ERA+ ERA WAR 140.0 54 166 22 118 3.54 2.9
That's a pretty solid #2 if he does that.

The most comprehensive and detailed videos of Senga and Yoshida on the web. Details their flaws and strengths. Video highlights-
Yoshida- -Was a DH this past year almost exclusively in Japan. -Is a bad baserunner -Should only be a part time outfielder -Top 3 in OBP the past 5 seasons
Senga- -Not a innings eater. Only had more than 170 innings once in his career. -Can get sperratic with his command at times -His fastball velocity has risen in the past few years and tops out at 96mph.

Thanks, very interesting, but is "Was a DH this past year almost exclusively in Japan" the bets way to describe a guy who played 40 games in the outfield in 2022? Out of 121 games played?

We’re living too much in the past. Understanding the past helps to keep you from repeating the same mistakes over, and over, and over, and over! It will help end the last to first, back to last, back to first. You don’t like it, don’t read it…..
