Turner makes a lot of sense. Platoon with Casas. DH otherwise. Right handed bat they need with JDM and Xander's departures. Huge upgrade over Dalbec.

2/24 sounds like a good guess
Would be happy to get him.

Would be good all around (at this point). Can spell the corners, can DH.
Also… might make Dalbec expendable.

So how long until Devers or Dalbec is traded?

Passan says 2/22 with an opt out

I'll take it. Solid professional bat. Needed a righty bat too.

Good. They were in a spot they had to have him. Now sign Segura, a lefty like Chafin, Rodgers, or Britton for the pen, and bring back Eovaldi.
Just so I'm not misunderstanding, his ABs will mostly come at DH and only at 1b against tough lefties when Casas hits the bench and with his sliding over to 1b in those situations, Verdugo shifts to LF, Refsnyder takes over RF and Yoshida does the DHing?

Happy with it. Can be the primary DH, spell Casas/Devers on occasion. Emergency 2B option as well. Plus he seems like a really fun guy to watch/root for in a Napoli-esque way (a lot of that is the beard though I guess).

Like the signing. He's probably the best bat left on the board. They love those options.

Now we’re ready to trade Devers lol. In all seriousness, this is a solid move, great second half and useful defensively (unlike JD). We need another middle infielder and possibly outfielder. On the pitching side I think we can only hope for one SP (Kluber/Eovaldi)

One of the few deals where the opt out works out well for the team and player.

Could see them giving Devers some DH days too where Turner plays 3rd, and an occasional day off.

I think the contract is fine value, but I really hate player options. It's basically a 1/11 deal, except if the 38 year old falls apart then it's a 2/22 deal.

Devers and Turner occassionally swapping off at DH and 3b is a good idea.

I don't love giving an option either but I don't totally agree with your decision tree here. If Turner just performs to expectations I think he opts-in.

Hard to complain about Turner as a stopgap option, I could see him pairing well with Yoshi as two high contact hitters to move the bases along in the new shiftless era. Although I do find it a bit funny that the Red Sox don't want to pay someone a large contract until they're 40, but will sign a 38 year old to a 2 year deal.

If the plan if for Turner to be the primary DH, that means that Yoshida is the LFer and Verdugo is the RFer. Doesn't sound like a great defensive lineup

what do you know? bloom actually made a move that we all have been suggesting. I guess he isn't completely unpredictable.
