When I saw the 45 signees quoted, I thought that it was a typo. Is that the standard number? Seems like a lot...

Teams probably had much more to go off of this class then the past two considering most of these players were 13 at the time.

When I saw the 45 signees quoted, I thought that it was a typo. Is that the standard number? Seems like a lot... It's a lot for day one if that's what he means, but they signed 56 guys last year over the course of the signing period. Edit: We just got an official list and there are indeed 40 guys on it. $590k for Carrasquel and $450k for Edwin Brito in addition to the other big ones we knew (Asencio $1m, Reyes $450k, Fermin $400k). Nobody else over 250k at this point. Quick math, they've spent $5,030,000, but that's in need of a double check. We'll update the IFA page soon.

40 is basically the two DSL rosters, with a few holdovers from last year. Or is it that some signees never even get to play at the DSL level? Interesting that for such a wide funnel opening, the one GSL team really narrows quickly, forcing a lot of one-and-outs.

About $1M left over which is slightly more than they spent on post-January IFAs last year. 14 $100K prospects this year vs. 8 last season.

The DSL rosters go up to 35 so there's more room there than you're accounting for. Your other point stands though.

It’s cool seeing the different approaches teams make. I think the Braves spent there money on one guy. Very brave . I’m not knocking it. Very interesting . I just love it when we polish off a Bello once in a while that feels good to me. No pun intended

Three players on MLB's top 50 are still unsigned, and it doesn't look like they will be by their original rumored teams. Potential Tony Ruiz situations?
#9 Kennew Blanco SS (was supposed to sign with TOR) - very young for this class. Rumor is he might sign with Toronto next year for a higher bonus. #26 Raymel Ortiz SS (was supposed to sign with NYM, but doesn't look like he will) #40 Jeremy Denaud OF (was supposed to sign with OAK, but doesn't look like he will)
Also Cuban Alejandro Cruz is still available.
I wonder if we can poach one of them with the 1M we have left.

I read that article and an other by the same writer on the topic not gonna translate it but seems like the people getting scammed are the trainers who pay others to bring them players and now won’t be getting their investment back because MLB is catching it before the actual signing. They did speculate that at least two 2023 ended up signing but did not name any names.

This is Kennew Blanco who was going to agree for 1.7 million dollars with the Toronto Blue Jays, but the Canadians backed out of the agreement when they realized that he was 17 years old instead of 16. He is still expected to sign in 2025, but for less money, since then he will be 18 years old More details coming soon in El Emergente x.com/TheBeatwriter/status/1750269948914475031

I have trouble believing that multi-billion-dollar organizations are getting snookered by those wily agents and their scrappy kids. I can't help but think that the teams are in on it exactly as long they want to be; playing along or blowing the whistle where they think it's to their advantage.

The performance is exactly the same, but it depends on if a 16 year old or 17 year old is doing it. Malcolm Gladwell has his famous observation about early-year birth dates, and more recently has written about age-adjusted performance in sports (using discounts to adjust swimming times per age). I guess we'll see it in play, although there may also be some additional factors such has character that may account for the 18 yo bonus.

Player pages created and linked up for all of the new IFAs. A lot of them are just stubs with basic information. Asencio enters the rankings at #40 to start.
