Also should have signed Bellinger. Easy to say now though. Meh, it's a good start to the season no doubt but it's 18 games. We'll see what his numbers look like in a few months and whether he's worth the 17.5 Mil he got. Not to mention the last thing they need right now is a 3rd LHH OFer. Perhaps if they hadn't signed Yoshida though. An OF of Duvall, Bellinger, Verdugo would probably have them with an extra win or two with how those three have all started compared to Yoshida. Theoretically maybe Duvall doesn't hurt his wrist if he's not playing CF that fateful day in Detroit but that's just fantasy talk. Bellinger at 1yr/$17.5m might have worked out better than 5yr/$90m for Yoshida. Plus Bellinger plays a great CF and is a solid 1B, as well. He would have helped in both spots. We’ll keep an eye on this one.

The Brewers got him for 1yr/$4.5m, too. That is looking like an absolute steal! ….not cherry picking….but if I were Bloom I would have signed Wade Miley at $4.5 million than Paxton at $4 million. Also, with the probability that Miley would be healthy to pitch (whereas Paxton is not), Bloom probably would not have needed to sigh Kluber…. They declined Paxton's option, and he picked up his $4m player option, no? So this isn't even a relevant debate

I’m loving the new format where you play every team every season. With 162 games, this seems to be a no-brainer, too. Hockey and NBA have done this forever with 1/2 the games. Manfred got this one right.

Definitely fair but it’s also fair to say Wade has battled durability issues himself the last few years too I agree with you on most thing….that said, Paxton was definitely going to miss time (and possibly significant time as his last couple rehabs have shown) and Miley has been more productive over the last three years. Miley is just not very good though. This is his 13th MLB season and he has only surpassed 2 fWAR three times (3.9 in 2012, 3.0 in 2021, 2.7 in 2015). Paxton hasn't had a healthy season since 2019 in large part due to TJ + COVID, but he made a lot of starts between 2016 and 2019 and his worst fWAR total over that stretch was 3.5. His career FIP is 3.31, which is delicious and 0.78 below Miley's. He's just a different tier of pitcher. Miley: * Realistic ceiling is a 3 starter (2021 redux + slight age-based decline) * Injury issues * 36 years old Paxton: * Realistic ceiling is a 1-2 starter (healthy + similar stuff to 2019 but with slight age-based decline) * Injury issues * 34 years old

With that double Kiké is an above league average hitter on the season. That turned around quick.

Casas missing those two in the zone, especially the first one, made me sad

Regarding Kiké, he was terrible at short, and you can fairly say the team was wrong to put him there, but he was also abnormally bad - like way worse than any of his previous time at short demonstrated. It was also driven a lot by errors (rather than simply poor range), and coincided with him hitting poorly.
I wonder if he wanted to be a shortstop so bad that he put too much pressure on himself and struggled on both sides as a result. I bet if they play him there in spots later, without the expectation he will be the full time shortstop, that he will do better.
