I will go to my grave arguing that mlb should scrap divisions entirely. And seed the playoffs 1-6 (best overall records in AL and NL. And if that means that the entire AL east makes playoffs than so be it.

The NL Central is so far the second strongest division in baseball despite the Cardinals being 10-17. Who saw that coming?

Bieber is really good. Also think Casas could maybe use some AAA time to reset his approach. You are the beneficiary of a slow thread day. Normally even thinking that Casas needs some time in AAA makes the denizens of the board really upset... Casas is sitting today against a RH starter, so a need for intervention has at least been acknowledged.

I will go to my grave arguing that mlb should scrap divisions entirely. And seed the playoffs 1-6 (best overall records in AL and NL. And if that means that the entire AL east makes playoffs than so be it. This is still...April. ALTHOUGH, since we're doing arbitrary endpoints: Bottom 10 teams at the end of April 2022: CIN, WA, DET, KC, BALT, TEX, CHW, BOS, CHC, PIT - Playoffs teams: 0 2021: COL, DET, MIN, MIA, TEX, ATL, CHC, CIN, PIT, TB/CLE (tie) - Playoff teams: 2 2020: N/A 2019: MIA, BALT, KC, WA, SF, OAK, CIN, BOS, LAA, COL - Playoff teams: 2 2018: CIN, BAL, KC, CHW, MIN, SD, MIN, MIA, TEX, LAD - Playoff teams: 1 So all is not lost if you are one of the bottom 10 teams in MLB on April 30. But almost all are lost, at least in in the last five years, which includes the expanded hockey-style playoffs. ADDED: Current Bottom 10 teams on 4/29: OAK, KC, CHW, COL, STL, DET, CIN, SEA, SF, SD/BOS (tie)

This shouldn't be a huge surprise to anybody. Nobody in the Sox pile of starters (due to injury, age, or lack of talent) could possibly be projected to be better than a #4 this season, unless you are prone to wild fits of homerism/optimism. Kutter has earned a shot, IMO. Going into 2023, I would have thought that to be a near-zero possibility outcome. Hugely pleasant surprise so far. Fans sometimes convince themselves that a collection of mediocrity is great depth. The Red Sox started the season with a lot of guys capable of starting in the strictest definition of "capable." Too many of them carried big question marks, or worse. It was reasonable to expect that Sale and Paxton wouldn't contribute anything and to be skeptical of Kluber. For them to compete in 2025, which is the year I am looking toward, they're going to need real firepower at the top of the rotation. Perhaps they can get that with some of money they have coming off the books the next two years or maybe they can develop it. Bello has potential and I still like Whitlock, though the constant injuries are a big issue. Each of the four WS Champion Sox teams this century had that. Lets hope Bello starts his journey toward being part of the solution today !

Normally even thinking that Casas needs some time in AAA makes the denizens of the board really upset... I didn't think this before, but my concern is lately it feels like he's been watching pitches down the middle, maybe in his head or guessing too much, but I'd like to see him get a little more aggressive on his pitches. The team would know better on this.

1 inning in and the home plate umpire has missed at least 5 calls already

1 inning in and the home plate umpire has missed at least 5 calls already Duran took 5 balls before grounding out on a 3-2 count. It's the worst when hitters are penalized for having great discipline like that.

Bello should learn that 1st pitch strike is the most important pitch.

Since we've been focusing a bit on short sample theater in this thread, take note that along with All Star Jarren Duran™'s hot offensive start, his is currently a plus defender this year according to Fangraphs.

Duran just made a nice play holding Ramirez to a single on a basehit to deep rcf. Got there fast, made a nice turn and the throw hit 2b on the fly.
