6/23-6/25 Red Sox @ White Sox Series Thread
|
Post by manfred on Jun 25, 2023 10:15:01 GMT -5
Criticisms of any manager (aside from Bobby Valentine) are incredibly tiresome. Thank you. Every damn gamethread is the same thing over and over and over again. That is probably inevitable with a team hovering at .500. The story doesn’t change much. What new approach would people suggest to discussing the team?

Here we go again - I do hope WS are leading off with a LHP Refsnyder RF Turner DH Devers 3B Duvall CF Yoshida LF Dalbec 1B Arroyo 2B K. Hernández SS C. Hamilton C Crawford P This looks far more like a lineup from last year with a blackhole bottom half. I am not enthusiastic. Looking at the schedule between now and the All Star Break, I can't emphasize enough how important a series win is here (and how it was important, if not extremely advantageous, it was to win yesterday). With upcoming series against Miami (44-34), Toronto (42-36 - and directly in front of the Sox in AL East and WC hunt) and Texas (47-29). If you are rooting for a WC appearance, they have to win the winnable series and, whenever possible, sweep the bad teams. If you are rooting for or resigned to meh this year, trading away the one and two-year signed veterans and getting more precious prospects in the bin, then you are likely inadvertently rooting for Bloom and/or Cora to be fired at the end of the year. I am convinced this ownership group will not tolerate another season finishing out of the playoff hunt, especially in this 6 team tournament format. There is still time and a bunch of winnable series in front of them, but the Sox cannot piss away a winnable series to a bad team (AGAIN!), which has really hamstrung them this year. Win today. Day off tomorrow. Battle Miami at home before heading up to Toronto. Another day off. Then Texas and Oakland at home before a nice rest for everyone (except maybe Yoshida and perhaps Devers, though he doesn't deserve an AS appearance this year). That's 13 games. Going 9-4 or 8-5 in that stretch is completely realistic and puts them in the hunt. Going less than 8-5 puts significant pressure on the second part of July. Get there in the hunt, and presumably, you get some help, Houck, Story and maybe Sale get closer to showing up in August, and it's anyone's guess if they can make it to the tournament. It's all there in front of them. They need to step up and take it.

Criticisms of any manager (aside from Bobby Valentine) are incredibly tiresome. Cora is now apparently beyond reproach, got it Just like all our institutions, utterances from authority figures and experts! So awesome how this is going lately!

Thank you. Every damn gamethread is the same thing over and over and over again. He should stop being an idiot every game then Cora has said that Kiké wont play SS much Going forward. But injuries to our other SS killed that plan. So try again with your complaints It’s getting tiresome, reading the same crap over and over again

At this point, I just want to see Duran play virtually every day to see what he can accomplish. It sucks that Cora keeps making him the odd man out. He’s the most exciting player on the team. Cora and this staff have worked hard with Duran to help him achieve success after years of underachieving. if they think he's better off playing several days a week instead of seven to lock down that improvement, in part by what he does in practice, that might well be a valid theory. So, “Cora and his staff” are the reason that Duran has broken out this year? And you don’t think he should be starting against every single RHP? Interesting.

A lefty better be pitching the majority of this game otherwise the idiot manager is at it again
We’re not title contenders! Play Casas and Duran! WTF!
I saw Touissant is the likely bulk guy! He’s a righty!!!

I’m not a Cora defender, but the one thing to remember with his bullpen management is that he was in that position because of Paxton’s shocking injury. Does anyone seriously expect to ride Paxton? He makes Sale look like Cal Ripken Jr. Paxton is purportedly going to make his next start. Didn’t Paxton miss 6 weeks with a hamstring issue earlier this year? I’m not buying it.

So nobody is allowed to vent? We are only allowed to throw verbal bouquets at the Red Sox? We are only allowed to complement but can't criticize anything? Why? Does it offend your sensibilities? You understand these people gets paid millions of dollars so they're fine either way whether they get complemented or criticized? When you get a team playing like the way they're playing you're going to see complements and hope when they do well and disgust and aggravation when they don't and when a team is at .500 more of less you'll probably see an equal amount of both. I sometimes wonder if you take the criticism personal as if it is directed at you, which it is certainly not.

Here’s to a couple Bobby Bombs to rebuild trade value He’s done everything that could be asked of him at AAA. That is for sure. I’m interested in seeing if he’s unlocked something this time around.

Which one or two of Refsnyder, Turner, Devers, and Yoshida do you consider black holes? Recent Ref, frequent Raffi Who is the White Sox' starter? It better be a lefty, and I'm just going to assume it is, in which case here are this lineup's wRC+'s vs. lefties:
Refsnyder 178 Turner 167 Devers 109 Duvall 148
Yoshida 133 Dalbec 115 (2022) Arroyo 75
Kiké 75
Hamilton n/a
Black holes are, strictly speaking, invisible, but I'm still going to say you have to squint pretty hard to see more than three of them here, or four if you have no faith in Duvall busting out of his slump.

Sell this deadline. Get in a better position and spend money this winter. They won’t. If Bogaerts, Eovaldi, and Martinez weren’t worth dealing last year, then I doubt Chaim is going to sell, concede on missing the playoffs and potentially get himself fired in the process. Right. Last summer they had more appealing pieces to sell, the added incentive of getting under the tax, and (by late July) a clearly bad team that was sinking like a stone, and still didn't go into full selloff mode. I don’t know why anyone would expect anything different this year. They'll still be able to hang their hat on "But muh 15 percent playoff odds!" which I guess is all you need.

Seems like opener will be lefty Tanner Banks with a RHP bulk guy to follow (Touissant listed on Roto). That makes the decision more reasonable, as long as they PH Duran and Casas the second a RHP is on the hill

Paxton is a very lucrative piece this year, same with Verdugo. But agreed, they missed out last year and will likely miss out again for some 10% chance.
