A league-wide program, the MLB College Scholarship Program, has existed for a number of years now. The financing of this fund is hard to work out, but if the team agrees to tick that box on your original pro contract, their contribution does not count against the bonus pool. It doesn't seem like it is a negotiated amount specific to the cost of your committed school. Thanks. With you providing the name, I found this. Nothing about a limit—suggesting that might be up to the team. Can cover both tuition and living expenses. But it does count as taxable income. img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-images/image/upload/mlb/i7qlplmry6pg6grylyg0.pdfI wonder if any teams are exploiting this?

I had a bad day yesterday. I was hoping to see everyone signed. Lol. I love this so much. I really am finding spellcheck getting very annoying. Especial when they substitute a different word.

I wonder if any teams are exploiting this? Probably not much to take advantage of here. Funds like these are typically funded by a standardized contribution per participant/contract. The bean-counters have undoubtedly computed the average cost for those who take advantage and discounted that by the expected percentage of those who will not pursue further education in the future. So the only advantage to take is agree or not agree to include this. Only the cheapest of organizations would play hardball on something like this, which I guess gives this organization a slight advantage over penny-pincher teams.

We seem to have hit a snag.... I'm guessing you'll see them start to come the next couple days. Zanetello and Anderson were in Boston for physicals and the cheap college signs are reporting.

Just checked, last year the draft started on Sunday, July 17 and the club announced 6 signings via press release on the morning of Tuesday, July 26. They then announced 12 more signings on the evening of Friday, July 29. If past is precedent, guessing we get some "official" news as early as today or tomorrow. Especially given the report that draftees started reporting yesterday and Zanetello is supposed to report today. Jim Callis or others might also beat the official news to the punch.
Also a reminder that the draft signing deadline is actually July 25 - a week from tomorrow. Pretty short window. Also I think technically they will need to sequence the signings such that the underslot top 10 round draftees sign before the draftees receiving overslot bonuses.

Nelly Taylor and Matt Duffy at JetBlue.

This combined with Mike's post just prior to this makes me believe that Taylor likely isn't all too far over slot, if at all (and honestly I didn't really expect him to be).

Bigger overslot so far is Travis Sykora to Nats at 70. 2.6 million in a 1 million slot at #70 for a HS P ranked #40 by MLB.com
Nats also signed Yohandy Morales for $2.6 million at the #40 slot they were thinking about taking Zanetello at.

I’m sure that will be a thrill for them — but, hey, no pressure with all those big leaguers watching.

He was in town for a physical, probably still just working through the bonus specifics and getting their ducks in a row with the under slot guys so they can make it all official at once. As Chris and others have noted, this is exactly how it played out last year. Most likely gonna get a wave of signings in the next couple days.

Mariners signed Colt Emerson for $3.8 million (300k overslot at 22) and Tai Peete for $2.5 million (230k underslot at 30). Two guys that fit the profile for strong Red Sox interest. Maybe future trade if Seattle needs something from us. That’s what coach Bill on the pats does.

Do you think the Sox are holding off on announcing the signings so the Agents don't know how much money they have?

I'm guessing no on Call, if his teammate got $1 mil to pass on UCLA. That seems to be a decent benchmark, and we won't have that. On Friday Anderson was Fenway then his next post was him at the jewelry story I was SURE we signed him i’m confused why it isn’t being announced yet. I was sure we signed Zanetello before the draft.

"pitchability" seems to be theme of our pitching draft.
The 2028 Red Sox rotation will be Bryan Bello and 4 Graham Ashcrafts.
