I'd be surprised if the Sox didnt get two Justin Garza level relievers for Hernandez. Anything more valuable than that cannot be expected. Yeah, they can't be guys that need to be protected from Rule 5.
So, yeah, these are Brennan Bernardino (as of last year) types.
(The point being that they may have something in mind for one or both guys, something creative that the Dodgers haven't tried. One in 20 odds they get a player of any sort, but that's better than zero. And always interesting!)
Of course, if they do get Robertson, they can flip him in a trade for a starter. Duh!

I’ll guess Nick Robertson is the return. Nice

I think Bloom did well. Either of those guys could be better than Garza. They're both pitching well in AAA. Looks like quality depth. Maybe they get a Bernardino surprise out if it.
Either way Hernandez was a detriment this year, mediocre last year, and unnecessary now, and Bloom turned him into two guys that have a reasonable shot at helping the pen. I loved the deal before they got anybody and I like it even more now. Well done Bloom.

Best news I've heard today. Thanks for your contributions Kiké - hope things work out.
On to baseball tonight.

Obviously this isn’t a blockbuster so most people won’t care, but this is just a great job by Bloom. If one of these guys pans out as a 7th inning reliever, you’re talking substantial long term value and you gave up 2 months of the worst player in baseball (by fWAR) to get it.

With the quality of these 2 arms, it looks like the Sox are eating most of Kikéâs salary.

Robertson 3.41 xFIP in AAA, 3.34 xFIP in the majors. Pitch modeling doesn't like him. Fastball/changeup.
Def an upgrade over Kaleb Ort or whoever would have currently made the cut as an up and down reliever on the offseason 40.

I think Bloom is a mediocre GM when it comes to helping the Red Sox as a major league club. But, I do think this deal is better than anyone here truly expected. Both of these guys should be immediately added to the roster.

Hagenman is Rule 5 eligible and not very likely to get protected I would think.

Overall pretty happy with the return. Probably about all we could have expected. And it takes away Cora’s temptation at short and probably a good sign that Story’s close

Hagenman is Rule 5 eligible and not very likely to get protected I would think. If you look at his history with these deals he generally finds a way to protect those guys. Plus Hagenman has pitched well in the PCL. Thats really tough to do.

Hagenman has made 5 starts, any chance they think of him as a starter?

This seems like a lobsided return for one of the worst players in baseball this year - pretty confident we ate all the $ (it would still be a good return). But if we didn’t, nice fleece Chaim.

Why did the Dodgers do this? 40-man crunch guys for them and confident they can fix Kiké?

This would be something to see. I am wary of getting minor league pitchers from the Dodgers or Rays, as they seem to have the best magic dust for pitchers in baseball. Anyone they cast off is a bit sus until the pitcher proves otherwise. Maybe Bloom can flip one or both of these guys in a package for someone more useful.

Best of luck to Kiké. He had an amazing, outlier year in 2021 and burned through the playoffs. Never a big fan of playing him every day, as Cora was want to do, and was sad to hear he'd become a bit of a clubhouse cancer this year while mired in his slump.
He ended up at the best place for him, and, seeing what the Dodgers seem to do with cast-offs, he'll probably morph back into his 2021 form within 2-3 weeks.

The fact they got anything for Kiké is amazing. He's been the worst player in baseball this year.
I know what he's done in the playoffs, but he was a DFA candidate.

Why did the Dodgers do this? 40-man crunch guys for them and confident they can fix Kiké? They have 3 lefty regular-ish outfielders (Peralta, Outman, Jason Hayward), Mookie playing 2B (and even SS at times), and Miguel Rojas has been sub-replacement level. Adding Kiké to that mix (along with Chris Taylor) might not be of giant benefit, but I get the fit for them if they think they can somehow get Kikè back to what he was in LA.
