This would be something to see. I am wary of getting minor league pitchers from the Dodgers or Rays, as they seem to have the best magic dust for pitchers in baseball. Anyone they cast off is a bit sus until the pitcher proves otherwise.Maybe Bloom can flip one or both of these guys in a package for someone more useful. Agree. This is a great trade, but these two relievers are presumably players they think less of than Ryan Brasier and Travis Scott. Maybe one turns into a change of scenery surprise, but I wouldn't bet on any more than the addition-by-subtraction aspect of this trade. Are these really change of scenery guys? they've both been having good years.....of course Robertsons MLB numbers don't look great......in 10 innings.

Why did the Dodgers do this? 40-man crunch guys for them and confident they can fix Kiké? Yeah, I think it's similar to how the Red Sox got Abreu and Valdez (who may have both been selected in rule-5 draft) for Vazquez last year. They probably expect for one/both to be gone this off-season. But to a team needing depth, and guy who most of us expected to be out-right released a week ago, this is still an amazing deal.

The ERA/xERA doesn't look great, but 3.19/3.34 FIP/xFIP from a 11.32 K/9 and 3.48 BB/9 shows promise, even if his fastball is 'hittable'.

It might be less that the Dodgers don't think well of these pitchers and more that they think they can help Hernandez turn it around and are so desperate for middle infield help that the best defensive right fielder since Dwight Evans is playing second base.

The fact that they didn't eat all of it is fairly remarkable to me.

Well that's a bummer on the 2.5M going back to the dodgers. Not surprised at all there but won't really help them much come trade deadline to try and bring in more salary if they don't want to go over the LT which if I had to guess they won't.

Mission accomplished. Hopefully Kiki is pleased with his new team. As far as the return, the Sox will have a couple months to evaluate what they are in AAA and who knows.

Eh, if the alternative was DFAing him, paying him all of his salary and getting no prospects in return (which it most likely was; feels hard to imagine Kiké still on the roster when Story comes back), the fact that they got anything at all was nice, and the fact that they offloaded some money and got a couple potentially useful relievers was great.

Considering how bad Kiké was this year, the fact that we got 2 lottery tickets, one with mlb experience is pretty damn commendable.

Projections have Kiké at around 85 wRC+ going forward, and he's an excellent outfielder. I don't think it's surprising that a team thought that he has a bit of value on a 60 games/$1 million deal.

Even putting aside the prospects and salary savings, the real synergies that the Red Sox front office squeezed out here were the facts that (1) the Red Sox did not need an extra outfielder but the Dodgers do and (2) if he was kept on the Red Sox roster, Cora would have played him more at 2B/SS than was ideal.

it had to be. we can wax poetic about all the nostalgia, but it wasn't tenable to keep him around. That may be a bit harsh, but a change of scenery was best for all involved. what he says near the end.

For sure it's better to have gotten the two somewhat interesting arms and saving a couple bucks than the alternative of DFA'ing him in a week and eating all the money. Not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth too much here.

If you are disappointed in the return because the Dodgers valued these guys less than Brasier, please understand that the Brasier currently pitching for the Dodgers does not resemble at all the Brasier last seen at Fenway.

Wow. They were seriously thinking about trading Kiké rather than Duval by the 13th at the latest. And no one got it!
You need a 4th guy capable of playing the middle infield. If you've got just three, and someone is banged up for a few days, you can't hit for the likes of Arroyo.
Right now the main three guys are Chang, Arroyo, and Flores. The fourth guy is 2B Justin Turner, who started a game there for the first time in years on the 14th.
If you trade Duval and keep Kiké, you obviously don't need to do that.

More like he just hasn't had a chance to implode yet. K and BB rates are not too far away from what they were in Boston, and his fastball velo is similar. The big difference is that he hasn't allowed a homer yet and his allowed BABIP is .154 compared to .344 while in Boston this year. The wheels are very likely to come off, and if they don't, oh well. He's a middle reliever that turns 36 next month and who I think is also a free agent next year.
Edit: And the Dodgers might value Brasier more this year, but these guys are a decade younger than Brasier and still in pre-arb. That doesn't mean they don't have value.

Presumably these guys are 40 man pitchers going forward. Wonder if this is a trial run for the 2024 season or if they'll get DFA'd at the end of the season.

It's easy and tempting to rag all over KKH for his performance this year, but he contributed BIGLY to the 2021 PS run. Bloom had a spectacular 2020-'21 off-season and KKH was probably the best move he made. His troubles this year were largely due to being placed at one of the most demanding positions on the field, a position he hadn't played much in his career. He got screwed by the bad roster construction.
Bot guys we are getting look like potential contributors at some point. Some dishes of spagetti do stick to the wall, so we'll see.

It is hard to be sad watching a guy go who is signed to short-term contracts on a team that revolves short-term contracts. In 10 years, I won’t remember he was here.
