Hm this is an interesting one. He's been bad this year but still just 26 and previous two years put up 2.3 and 2.1 fWAR. Has some control left. Could be an option at 2nd next year.
I like him more than Arroyo which isn't exactly saying much though.

If they can get him to rebound they have a legitimately good 2B next for next season. He can definitely hit when he’s going well.

Brewers: Luis Urias Getting Back in the Groove Down at Triple-A Nashville Apparently the demotion to Triple-A was exactly what Urias needed to kickstart his season. Because if you look at his numbers in July, you can tell he is starting to look much more like the version fans got excited for in his breakout 2021 season. In 12 games in the month of July for the Sounds, Urias is hitting .267, getting on base 40.4% of the time, and has an OPS of .915. He has two doubles, three homers, has scored nine runs, and driven in eight. More importantly, that strikeout to walk ratio is starting to look much better as well. After putting up a 13-to-2 ratio during his rehab stint and then going 15-to-7 earlier this season with the Brewers, Urias has a 13-to-10 K/BB ratio so far in July with Nashville. [total AAA stars this year .233 .345 .379 .724 ] reviewingthebrew.com/posts/brewers-luis-urias-getting-back-groove-down-triple-nashville

I can't tell if this is going to cost next to nothing or if we're giving up a decent prospect

In the past three-plus weeks, he’s yet to get into a groove, hitting just .145/.299/.236 for a wRC+ of 60. A .179 batting average on balls in play isn’t doing him any favors, but his exit velocity, hard hit rate and barrel rate are all down a few points, suggesting it’s more than just luck” www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/06/brewers-option-luis-urias-recall-brice-turang.html

I like Blalock, but this will be solid depth over the next 2+ seasons. Hopefully he gets back to his form from the previous 2 seasons.

Probably a fringe prospect like Mata Seeing Mata referred to as a "fringe prospect" breaks my heart. Have enjoyed tracking him over the past ~6 seasons. I still have high hopes as a RP.

Yeah 3 more years of control. I like it. Can be used all over the infield. Best at 2nd and 3rd. They need to fix second base. Worth a shot to try Urias.

There goes one of the possible rule 5 toss ups. Blalock has sounded impressive in his return from TJ but I don't mind giving him up for urias.

Blalock is Rule 5 eligible this winter. As a guy with good stuff who is merely doing pretty good in A-Ball, he would've either been an unhappy protect or a real risk to get taken. He has a chance of making it but I don't think he had much value given his roster status.

He's -15 OAA at SS in ~120 games. Nice to see a quick pivot to get a terrible defensive SS back in the mix after the Kiké trade!
Mostly joking - he's +3 in ~100 games at 2B. He seems very Arroyoish to me - an infielder who can play a decent 2B and passable 3B, can't really play SS - but is more expensive: 4.7 million this year with two more arb years of control. It's a good move if they think they can get him back to his 2021-22 level of offensive production I guess.

Good trade is an upgrade over Arroyo and has more power. If he can stay healthy he'll hit 15 to 20 hrs

Lotta pull-side homers but a relatively evenly distributed spray chart aside from that

Even if you consider Hernandez for Urias a wash (it's not), turning Blalock into Robertson and Hagenman is a nice piece of business
