Very cool research. I've been pretty critical of route efficiency. The top fielders (Bradley, for instance) will often be dinged because they'll intentionally overrun and then circle back on easy fly balls so that they're coming in to catch the ball. That's particularly the case when there are runners on base and they need that momentum going into the throw.

The college's write-up has a few more details:

Really cool sound bites from Andrew Bailey’s first statements, as recorded this evening by Speier and co. Mentions how he and Craig used to joke about their future together while they were chilling in the bullpen at Fenway. Craig wanted to be GM and Bailey said he’d be the pitching coach. He also mentioned that he’s excited for a fresh re-start in Boston and wants to make up for his stint before which was hampered by injury. Good stuff.

Chances Bailey eventually replaces Cora?

Chances Bailey eventually replaces Cora? I’d say pretty low. The Venn Diagram in which on one side the pitching is so good that he represents a legitimate managerial candidate and on the other the Red Sox as a whole are bad enough to get Cora fired has pretty little overlap in my opinion. Unless you mean replacing him by Cora’s own choice (moving up to the FO or whatever). Then maybe!

Love to see local kids break into the industry with the Sox. Breslow’s army of pitching nerds is being assembled

Looks like he works with Logan Webb, who would give him the Andrew Bailey connection

Is that Haviland's role or will he be reporting to Willard?

Skimmed around a little, seems like a sharp guy pulling from the same kinds of sources as the other hires. I wonder if Thad Levine recommended him during his interview

Is that Haviland's role or will he be reporting to Willard? Director is above coordinator. According to this:https://www.mlb.com/redsox/team/front-office Haviland is director, pitching development
