Lively throwing 90-92 right by Rafaela in both at bats Maybe he shouldn't be leading off when OBP is the single most important quality for a leadoff man? Just a thought. Hard to think of a guy less well suited to leading off who can still hold down a major league job.

He looks visibly more confident up there since moving to leadoff. See if it gets something going until Raffy is back

Pretty amazing that not only is the entire infield injured - all four of them have been replaced by guys who are *well* below replacement level. Already -2.1 WAR from Valdez/Hamilton/Rafaela/Reyes/Dalbec.

Splitter is awfully nice these days I think we are going to be having conversations about what Houck’s new ceiling is sooner than later. It’s filthy. I can’t believe the fan base wanted him buried in the pen behind Jordan Montgomery.

Houck is a monster. He's having a special year.
This rotation has been making the 6th ranked offense look like a AAA team. Unfortunately, the offense, bullpen and defense didn't help when they got swept.

Cleveland's cast crew is even worst that NESN's. Also, can't believe this guy is pitching like 99 Pedro.

At least every red sox game should be 2 hours or less in length. They get everyone out and can't hit the ball.

Would still be nice to have Montgomery right now tho! Key words “right now” .. on the contract it would have required? No way .. he would have quickly turned to an overpriced underperformer

Does not sound like he would have been open to that in Boston from what was reported. It's hard to know because he could have been upset at the lack of interest from Boston. You can't dump me, I dumped you! I don't think there's any reported offer by Boston. I think if they gave him 5-6 million more than Arizona it would have been a dream to be here.

Valdez had a great opportunity to start the year, and he hasn't done much with it. Really seemed he'd be a good bet to at least hit right-handed pitching well. He's starting to make me impatient for Grissom, this bottom of the lineup is brutal right now.

1 pitch outs are the worst. At least Dalbec gets to 3.
And of course he gets out on 2.

Nice lead off by Ref but no chance we are cashing him in without Valdez moving him over

Nicer scenario than making him the Yoshida of the pitching staff with a 5 year deal. And playing devil’s advocate a bit here. But, had Giolito or Pivetta remained healthy, it likely would have resulted in Tanner Houck plugging into Winckowski or Slaten’s current role. He is clearly capable of more. If he is truly emerging, which I believe he is, there is a high opportunity cost in the scenario where he’s buried in the pen for a 1 year Montgomery.

The Valdez - Rafaela lineup stretch were running has to be in contention for worst 5 batter stretch in an MLB lineup this year

Houck has made Florial look worse than Dalbec. Not sure about now but before the game Houck actually had reverse splits on the year
