Good point. Results are nice, but these guys typically have certain objectives or things they're working on and overly concerned with the actual results. They need live games to work on fastball command or the change or whatever it is.

OK then. Well your opinion is worthless and unfounded. You don't need all the answers, or even 10% of the answers, to know that you shouldn't be drafting for need relative to perceived gaps in your ml system. Anyone who has a passing interest in baseball should know this - does not require rocket science. There are few things more pathetic than "it's just my opinion" - that's the last/standard refuge for the ignorant. This is Ben Cherington isn't it? My "opinion is worthless" because in your world "its not about need in a MLB draft", for gods sake everybody with a passing interest should know this! Thanks for squaring me away on that little detail. Im sure you have logged thousands of hours in a MLB draft room yourself. I would have gambled on a hitter at 7 over a P. My god man, get a grip on yourself!

I don't think it's crazy to at least allow some consideration for team needs. We all know that most of the time a prospect is 3-5 years away but sometimes it's as little as 1-2 years, in rare cases. And some teams have different situations than others. For example a Miami might rush a guy to the majors faster than some others. It is probably foolish to generally draft for need but in some instances I would give it some consideration.
For example, power hitting left handed hitters in Yankee stadium. Fly ball pitchers in San Diego. Maybe if it's down to 2 players you like, if one is a position of need you might give him an edge.
And I think "It's just my opinion" is also a way to say "I understand you may well disagree but this is how I feel about it".
No reason to get upset. Life is short.

Speier quotes a little of Abbott in his Minor League Roundup: Good things to remember ... what they see in him, and that it's "going to take a little time."

JJ Cooper @jjcoop36 · 17m Keep searching for a scout who has seen Red Sox LHP Trey Ball good this year. It's a tough quest. No luck yet.
JJ Cooper @jjcoop36 · 13m Scouts aren't liking the delivery or the stuff with Trey Ball. Showing nothing plus, worries about his delivery and arm action
Harry Pavlidis ?@harrypav 13m @jjcoop36 is the violent head jerk still there? I saw that at the UA showcase and was frightened.
JJ Cooper @jjcoop36 . @harrypav Yes at times. Arm often trying to catch up to the body in his delivery.

That's certainly tough to swallow. It's still way too early to consider this, but I wonder if the Red Sox development staff have a Ball to the OF move in the back of their heads. We know the system lacks outfielders. Hell, Stetson Allie made the change alright for the Pirates. Of course, he's not lighting the world on fire at 23 in AA, but has held his own and is doing much better than he did pitching. Comps are unfair of course, but just saying it has been done (Ankiel, Doolittle the other way from hitting to pitching in MLB this year). Ball seems like a good enough athlete and I know lots of scouts liked him as an OF coming out of HS.
Only time will tell.

Not encouraging so far obviously, but I want to see if he can take steps forward next year before making judgements.

Beside the punto trade, nothing right seems to come out of that 2012 season even that high draft pick :/

GO read scouting reports at the time of the draft, its not like we picked someone who was not in the BA top 50... This guy would have been gone before the 10th pick....

It is June.
Of his first year.
With alterations in his mechanics the Sox have him working on.

Uh, maybe you guys forgot he had strep throat? You know, like, the most debilitating illness known to man.
I just hope he's already had chicken pox, we might have to give him a pass for all of next year too.
