Last place team? Have I told you about the 83 win Cards team which won the World Series? Don't give up the ship!! I don't like to criticize managers for any individual moves. Most can be reasoned. But, game after game against Baltimore the last 4 1/2 years. They are the fundamentally sound team. Showalter makes the bullpen move at the time it's needed. Seems to have a line-up ready to go against our pitchers. While we appear stuck in neutral. More of a compliment towards Buck, than a knock on Farrell.

Did Porcello let Baltimore's players know how good his xFIP is as we was slinking off the mound? My projection is another last place finish. Protected pick. That's what I'm talking about.

This season has been a joke. 3 of the last 4 seasons have been a complete f'n joke. Plus, the last month of the previous one. Maybe, we'll win 83 and the World Series this year...LOL

Not just the of, but if we're in a pitching dominated era. It will be good to have plus athletes. Maybe, you can save an important run with defense. Or, good base-running. Not just stealing bases.

Should the Red Sox become buyers at the deadline or later this offseason, I wonder if Andrew Benintendi makes Margot any more expendable. We're clearly not a championship team. If you're not, why not sell? Maybe someone likes Buchholz or Koji. Maybe, even a vet like Napoli or Victorino. I think we are 2-3 years from contending. We need Mookie to develop more. Like Xander did this year. Swihart to get entrenched as the C. Hope Rusney emerges as a good MLB player. Then, let's talk. We'll still have Pedey at 2b, Hanley at DH and Fatso at 3b. Maybe, some young kids such as; Moncada, Devers or Benentendi are ready to make a splash. But, we're talking 2018. Not next year. I see Margot as trade bait. Unless someone likes Castillo and gives us something worthwhile. As, Margot is about to break in.

With a lefty going today. I'd like to see this lineup.
Pedroia - 2B Bogaerts - SS Ramirez - DH Napoli - 1B Castillo - RF Betts - CF Sandoval - 3B Swihart - C Da'za - LF
Have Papi and Holt to pinch-hit in a big spot against a righty. We could really use a healthy Victorino. Not having him the last year and a half has hurt.

I guess Espinoza and Acosta were the high end pitchers for 2014/15, other than Kopech last year. usually the Sox take at least 1 each year, but now it's looking like it won't happen, unless there is some senior they can grab for dirt cheap. We've developed a new strategy on starting pitching. Just throw any schmuck in the rotation and say he's one of five aces. Who needs upside?

The pick who went right before us Travis Blankenhorn from Pottsville, Pa. I've probably seen play basketball 8-10 times. Our local high school team plays them and saw him in a few playoff games. Didn't even know he played baseball. Ironically, they have another kid on their basketball team who is the nephew of former MLB Pitcher Chris Nabholz. Not sure if the Nabholz kid is a baseball prospect or not. I know he sat out a year of hoops to concentrate on baseball.
Minnesota must have a scout in this area. About 10 years ago they drafted a kid from Mt. Carmel, Pa. the football powerr. Dave Shinskie. Washed out in baseball. Ended up at BC and even qb's for a few games.

The College World Series is going to be great this year. So much draft talent on all teams. Looks like Benintendi kicks it off against UVA on Sat. at 2p.

Having a guy with a career .912 OPS would really suck. Heck, it's .960 this year. We could always bring Napoli back or promote Travis Shaw.

I can't find any calculation that has Buchholz's four-year WAR in the red. Which are you using? 2.0 WAR is about an average player. The problem here is your fun with arbitrary endpoints. His four-year WAR is weighted very, very heavily to the time longest ago. B-Ref has Buchholz in the lead since '13 at 3.4 to 3.3. Fangraphs, meanwhile, gives Buchholz a 5.9 to 3.3 advantage. By using four-year WAR, you are basically saying that 2012 is the important gauge of what player Buchholz and Fielder are currently. I went by baseball reference. Maybe, I read it wrong. Do you really think Buchholz has been above average 3 of the last 4 years? And, he only lasted 2 1/2 months in his good year. I don't get the love for him on here.

You know that thing about selling high and buying low? Trading for Prince Fielder after he's spent 10 weeks pretending to be Tony Gwynn following years of decline isn't that. You are also getting him at a discounted price. He had a damn good year in 2012, slid back in 2013 and got hurt last year. Back to raking now that he's healthy? What decline. Fielder's cumulative war over the last four years is +8.5. Isn't that 2.1 above league average? Over those last 4 years Clay's cumulative war is -0.8. Isn't that slightly below league average?

What's your suggestion? Bat Manny Margot cleanup next year? Hanley Ramirez is the DH. Why would you trade Buchholz for Fielder? You could get a lot more than that for Buchholz. Fielder will play 1b. He's not just a DH. If you care to venture over to his career. Until last year, he played 150+ games at 1b 8 straight years. I'd say that's pretty durable. Hanley is stuck in LF next year. Because, Papi will come back for another year. www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/fieldpr01.shtml I would sell high on Buchhholz at this deadline. If a real GM were signing free agents, he could find one as good as Buchholz in free agency for the same price.

He stills waves at a lot of pitches and leans in instead of staying balanced and getting his hips to generate power. But his ability to avoid striking out and ability to go the other way with the pitch have stood out significantly lately. He seems to have figured out how to hit sliders this year. So far it looks like only the best sliders are still giving him heart burn, the rest he can get to. Yeah, take a single to RF if it's on the outside corner.

We really need a LH bat as Papi's career is winding down. Fielder was a true ironman until injured last year. He's mostly DH'd this year. 10g at 1b. He's had a revival at the plate. He's due 18m per year over the next 5 years. Detroit is picking up 6m per year. They've got Gallo needing ab's once Beltre comes back. Beltre is signed for one more year. They now have Hamilton back. Who looks more like a DH. Moreland is ok at 1b.Would they deal Fielder for pitching? Prob not until the winter.
Buchholz and Owens??

I'm hoping we fall out of the Hamels/Cueto trade sweepstakes. Now, I'd be willing to talk to Cueto this winter. When he's a free-agent.

I thought Farrell left Buchholz in one batter too long, back in the 5th. Lucky it didn't come back to bite us:)
