Random question: what's all that stuff floating around in the air?

This team seriously can't catch a break. Get a lead, pitchers bad or unlucky. Pitch well or pitch lucky, hitters bad or unlucky. The sequencing has been killing us. Thankfully, the division is terrible, this game is still winnable, and we are only 3 games out of first place. Hooray! I wouldn't even put it that way. The Red Sox have the only negative run differential in the AL East and by quite a lot. So, I'd say they're just underperforming. I didn't run the numbers, but it's -38 vs next is the Orioles at +2. I find it hard to believe that luck is making that big of a difference but maybe someone can show me I'm wrong.

Well, it's frustrating because Porcello was never this bad

The only good thing about that article was that it wasn't a slideshow. I love this line. Also, the author was too lazy to even turn the third trade into an actual trade.

This is why Kelly is so frustrating. You are frustrated that he has thrown five shut out innings allowing very little hard contact? I think he's referring to the inning where he loaded the bases, to be fair.

I was just talking to my dad and we disagreed..... I said his velocity was 95 back in 2006. Am I way off or am I right? If I am right, how does a still fairly young guy in great shape lose that much velocity? He needs elective Tommy John Surgery if that is the case.
I don't think it's just that. His command is gone too

I'm saying that a team confidant in its roster is going to perform well, while a team in despair because of something like, oh, I don't know, IT'S RIDICULOUSLY STUPID PITCHING STAFF, will perform poorly. Miley could have gone 9 IP 1 ER with 15 K today and we still would've lost. Just sayin'. Our four middle bats are batting < .200. I don't think it's fair to blame just the rotation at this point.

Look at that middle of the order: .165, .143 .152 .133
Why is Swihart batting before Bogaerts?

Lost in this absurdly stupid deflategate non-scandal is the fact that the NFL actually allows teams to handle the balls at all. If it's so #$#*$&*$&@#$ important to the integrity of the game, why do they? Hint, it's not a meaningful advantage. As I said about 8 pages ago, every team does this at every level. It doesn't matter. What is unfair about it? Why is there even a rule about it? What is next? Brady jaywalking? I think this is the only good real defense here, which is, how important is the rule? It's either not important or the NFL looks really bad. The problem is Brady mishandled this one so, so badly. Now he looks bad, the NFL can play this off like it's a horrible thing and reinforce this perception by punishing him. It does sound an awful lot like he lied, and tried to cover it up. Sometimes trying to cover up a transgression looks worse than the actual transgression. It's all about perceptions with the NFL.

The texts are pretty compelling. I agree it's pretty damning. I'm not really liking the wholesale denial by Pats fans. I mean, the fans didn't cheat, so there's no need for fans to be so defensive. If this were any other team we'd probably be like "yeah probably cheated." I was watching the AFC game in Oakland in a bar and the guy next to me brought up (what else) the tuck rule. My friend told him don't hate the player, hate the rule and he kinda laughed and was like, well, we should've won right? And my friend said yeah, you should've won, but we won. And the guy was cool with that. I mean, I think everyone recognizes that this stuff happens, but the denial just gives them more fuel to go on. Either way, fans are always going to jeer, but it's part of the game, right? The deflated balls don't take away the Super Bowl, which we won, that's the important thing

Didn't they win the Super Bowl with rigorously tested footballs?
I mean, it's a game, run by an autocratic and laughably arbitrary league. Take whatever punishment comes their way, and move on.
I think Brady said, this isn't ISIS, which is self-serving sure, but it's true, no one's getting hurt (unlike with the concussions, and the domestic violence) the and in the end does this make football less fun to watch? For anyone? I don't think so. It just gives people something to gripe about, which is fine too I guess. The bottom line is I don't know anyone who is saying "I might stop watching football because the game lacks integrity."
