No matter what Hanigan ends up doing I'm pretty happy with this at-bat.

Agreed. I don't think a Cole Hamels deal even begins to make sense unless it means a shot at the world series this year. There will be plenty of arms to buy in the coming offseason.

Are we paying for Papelbon? If so that deal is insane. If not I still think it's kind of crazy.

Yeah Mujica is now responsible for just as many runs as Buchholz. Maybe Farrell doesn't think he has enough pitchers to get through this game. Not that I really want to defend this

Yeah Mujica's already walked more batters than Buchholz...

"This is our view of the role of a pitching coach"... says some totally unqualified JAG interest has already waned but still reading.. Then: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coach_%28baseball%29#Pitching_and_bullpen_coachesI shouldn't have provided a random link, but maybe the burden on you to explain to me what (in your view) a pitching coach does, and then explain to me what that has to do with a manager's in-game decisions? Because as far as I know, the pitching coach does not make in-game decisions and his role has more to do with mechanics.

I think we're confusing his ability as a pitching coach with his ability to make in-game decisions regarding pitching. The two are not the same. As far as I know his past reputation with the Red Sox concerns the former, and what "mathematicians" don't agree with concern the latter. What are you saying here, that Farrell's stressing out about wins and going against what he knows? Come on, man, wouldn't it be easier and make more sense to just say that the poor man was dealt **** and has been doing his best to make it float? I'm not sure you read what I said.... no that is not what I am saying. See www.baseball-excellence.com/index.cfm?Method=Instructions_Instructionsdetail&id=7and then tell me why Farrell's reputation as a pitching coach says anything about his ability to make in-game decisions.

So what you're saying is 1. You're not just ignorant, you're also proud of it and 2. Farrell is the greatest pitching wizard ever, and that's why this rotation is so good. OK. Farrell is proven, he's a damn-fine pitching coach - a reason he was hired and a reason why I respect him. To lambaste him because your mathematicians don't agree with his decisions is ridiculous. I think we're confusing his ability as a pitching coach with his ability to make in-game decisions regarding pitching. The two are not the same. As far as I know his past reputation with the Red Sox concerns the former, and what "mathematicians" don't agree with concern the latter.
