17 years ago today one of the biggest game in Red Sox history took place. Tek vs Arod, with Kapler, Nixon and Big Papi taking on Sturtze on the undercard.
I was at this game sitting in the RF grandstands with Yankee fans sitting all round us. Lots of back and forth throughout the game.
Yankees lead in the 9th inning and a number of their fans start to leave with Rivera coming in the bottom of the inning. I asked a couple of them for their numbers to call them when the Red Sox come back to win. They refused. Billy Mueller hits the walkoff HR and Fenway goes crazy. I pictured those Yankee fans driving back to New York and listening to Sterling’s call. That drive likely got a lot longer that day.
We start to leave Fenway and there is some commotion under the grandstands. Some adult Yankee fan wearing a full Yankee uniform is catching verbal abuse. You hate to see it. 🤣

Devers appreciation post. Where would the Red Sox be without him? He is arguably the Red Sox best player.

So what does this even mean? He can't buy tickets under his name, but whats to prevent him from walking into a game along side a friend who bought the tickets??? It would seem that MLB would likely have to get a restraining order against this guy. Violation of a restraining order is a felony in most states. Good luck keeping your job or finding a new one with a felony on your record. Also, this guy’s face has been plastered all over social media. Either his employer or school likely will be made aware of his antics, if they haven’t been already.

Where is the police? Why isn't this guy being arrested? At a minimum there should be a lifetime ban from the stadium to serve as a deterrent for other assholes thinking about doing anything similar in the future.

Turns out google has a better answer, at least if we're to believe these advisors. I'd greatly appreciate a second opinion though. To my speculation above, it seems like there's a clause in the contracts that state that a bonus can be recouped and as a result it's not considered a true "signing bonus". As such, it gets apportioned to wages and taxed based on the states in which they play games. awmcap.com/blog/how-your-mlb-signing-bonus-is-taxedanderscpa.com/taxation-of-major-league-baseball-signing-bonuses/?tag=saeInterestingly, having players stay in Florida and structuring the money to be paid more up front would I think thus allow the player to only have to file Florida taxes and get the 0%. State tax laws vary by state. For Florida factors that establish residency for tax purposes include Registering to vote Obtaining a driver's license Starting employment or trade or business Living in the State for 6 consecutive months Any player drafted in 2021 would not be able to meet the Florida residency requirements for 2021 if they did not live there prior to being drafted. You would then be considered a part year resident for which income may be apportioned based on respective states in which you reside in 2021.

Many of us have seen the Yankees come back from oblivion too often to count them out. The Red Sox have an opportunity to bury them the next two weeks. Finish them.
PS-The Yankees I hated the most are Pinella,Clemons, and Gardner.

This could also be a part of the roster crunch issue that BA recently talked about. Given that there are fewer minor league teams combined with clubs still evaluating draftees and international signings the last couple of years who have limited playing time due to the pandemic, why push some 2021 picks into about a month of playing at the expense of possibly releasing some other recently signed players?

Gardner also came to my mind. Would be pretty valuable in the mid teens. I really doubt Gardner can skate Or play QB.

From Athletic …. The COVID-19 pandemic squashed Mayer’s junior campaign and the rising senior opted to skip much of the summer showcase circuit. Instead, he stayed at home in Chula Vista. “Usually after high school season, summer ball starts right after and you don’t really have time to work out,” Mayer said. “I used that time to just hit the weight room, try to get stronger, faster, more flexible, which ended up helping me in the long run.”

Rocker either is pissed off or he doesn’t have a pulse. One of the biggest days of his life and he shows so little emotion. Could help explain why he dropped a few spots in the draft.

What a glowing endorsement by Corbin, Kumar Rocker's college coach. Much more glowing than on Leiter. Compares him to Bob Gibson. I think this is the steal of the draft. Gibson was a mean SOB who probably would brush back his mom if she was crowding the plate. Isn’t the knock on Rocker that he is too nice?

Mayer’s coach…
“I coached Adrián González, and they have similar swings,” Eastlake head coach David Gallegos told the Detroit News this spring. “I think Marcelo has a little more power. … This kid hits homers in batting practice that are no-doubters — high and far, and wow.”

Reynolds compares Mayer to Chipper Jones and then contradicts himself saying Mayer is a LH hitter whereas Jones was switch hitter. Wait what? ESPN compared him to Yelich which seems a much better comp.

Luke Voit, with a career 4.5 War, appears in a BMW commercial. “ Lightening in a bottle.” I had to watch 2x to make sure it was real. Lol.

Go ahead, talk to me about rationality. You order 5 pizzas and pay for them online. The delivery guy shows up at your door with two pizzas and tells you the other 3 are in the car, he couldn't carry them all at once. You proceed to scream at the delivery man that you paid for more than 2 pizzas and he and his company are all terrible. Who is being irrational in that sitiuation? Well, those three pizzas in the car better be from Pepes. The two that have been delivered so far are cold Dominos’ pizza.

It is not clear to me what the plan is for 2021. None of the players acquired this offseason are difference makers which are going push the Red Sox into contention. I don’t get selling Beni when his value is at his low point. Why not let him build up some value in spring training and early 2021 season?

MLB is becoming more like the NBA each passing day. There are 4 or 5 teams which can legitimately compete for the title each year and the rest of the teams are playing for table scraps, MLB needs to think long and hard about a hard cap similar to the NFL. Otherwise MLB TV ratings and fan base is going to continue to shrink.

I don’t get this signing. He is a journey man type player. The Red Sox are not likely going to contend for a playoff spot for 2021. Why waste salary on Hernandez vs taking a salary dump such as Myers, with the Red Sox assuming some salary to acquire a cost controlled starting pitching prospect.
