Dalbec. Who would trade him for Joey (.190) Gallo right now ? Anyone It's been awhile. Increasingly looking like he's turned a corner. Future LF with a cannon for an arm, .230 with 30 HR ?

Terrific job by Bloom with the pickup. He's had a tremendous year - even if team doesn't make the playoffs Bloom's done a great job. Nine AL teams were projected to be better than the Red Sox. The Schwarber pickup only further highlights the strong job he's done. I wonder if there's extra value in knowing the player, that he likes Boston/performs under the pressure etc....where some FAs come to Boston and disappoint...Im not sure it actually matters in real life, but in my mind Im way more excited about potentially signing him now than I would have been otherwise. Delete this when he OPS .650 next year... I was always keen on the "performs under pressure" component and then Sandoval happened.

It has been a long time since I pitched, but from what I recall going 2 innings in 1 outing vs. 1 inning each over 2 outings over time are not the same when it comes to wear and tear. Warming up and number of pitches thrown are also a factor. One of the great things about Koji is it wasn't unusual for him to get through an inning throwing fewer than ten pitches.

Barnes? BARNES? Did you say Barnes and high leverage in the same breathe? Feels like Cora is over managing. He has two guys throwing great and he brings in Perez whose Red Sox career is just about over. Factor in what happens when guys over over used.

This AB by Arauz is like blood in the water. Fastball is ticking down Yeah he was 93 now it's 92. He's got nothing. So annoying when they don't pound a guy like this.

Logan Allen is like a lesser version of Martin Perez. What did people ever see in him. And why don't the Sox already have 5+ runs?

Well, hopefully I've been horribly wrong on Bobby. I do wonder if Covid is negatively impacting Rizzo either health wise or just that the time off messed with his mechanics just a bit. Either way, it's great to see Voit losing his mind over the acquisition and not playing despite playing better than Rizzo. Unfortunately, nothing matters as NY is never going to lose another game again. Rizzo hasn't had a good year period. I think the near obsession with him comes from the fact he began in the Sox system. Which is funny in a way because he was traded when he was a highly ranked prospect fans could dream on and now people wanted to get him back by trading highly ranked prospects people could dream on.

Off subject a little bit but I would love to see the Sox sign Ryan Tepera in the offseason. He will be a FA and possible under the radar guy, although his numbers should put him on the radar. I can definitely see the Sox going by committee next year as I just don't see Chaim breaking the bank on a proven closer not do I see Barnes as the fulltime guy. They just need to drill it into everyones heads to be ready thru out the game for whatever role is needed game by game. Also they might need to think about having more guys who can go 2+ rather than 1 as the starters will be averaging less than 6. Bloom will likely put together a good bullpen. He did it this year until the starters killed the bullpen.

You can't tell if Barnes' curve isn't any good anymore because he can't throw one for a strike and no one swings at it.

Is it wrong to be nervous right now? I'm nervous but only because I feel bad for Barnes. I hope he asked to go in.

Watching Simmons field the hell out of SS makes me feel a twinge of anxiety about the idea of Bogaerts there long term. By long term I assume you mean next year? Seriously I love the guy but Ian and Chris were talking about his lack of range on the new podcast. The Sox have got to lead MLB in infield hits allowed. It's a real problem already.

It started off down. Then he started overthrowing and walked a guy and hit a guy. He hit a guy with a slider. Commanding The secondaries was a bigger issue IMO Still an encouraging outing It's been encouraging. He was kind of cruising and I was thinking he might go 7 full. Then all of a sudden he couldn't put guys away. He got ahead but they would foul off what had been swing and miss pitches. He reached back and was at 97-98 at the top of the zone but there were lots of balls and foul balls and ultimately he had the two long ABs against him and walked one and hit the next. Overall it's encouraging. I'm sure he's still building up and he should be the key next year. A true ace who goes 7+ innings game after game.

I am agnostic on Dalbec — hr could bust, he could be good — but when he *does* hit, it is really pretty. Add: and he is a kid I really root for. This has been a gutty season. Through some brutal stretches he has just plugged away. I like the way he goes about his business. My feeling is he was getting the rookie treatment early in the year and getting into bad counts. Then he expanded his zone which caused him a lot of trouble. As most here will recall it was always assumed walks were part of his game. He had a good eye. During all that time he never tried to show up an umpire. He'd take his lumps and go back to the bench. Over the past month or so it looks like he is coming around. Maybe he's earned some respect. Still needs to work on his glove. Dropping throws is unacceptable and he should have eaten up that smash by Rizzo against the Yankees. Not an error but he's got to glove that. Weird thing is he often has balls go off the heel of his glove which shows he was "there" in time.

I believed it. Who makes up a specific number, lol? Turns out I wasn’t even giving him proper credit, gamecast has him at 98 with one to Donaldson So quite literally the hardest he’s thrown since he’s gotten back It started off down. Then he started overthrowing and walked a guy and hit a guy.

Sale looking very shaky. Velocity down and big loss of command.

Serious question- who do you have less faith in right now, JD or Vazquez? At least they are taking the heat off Dalbec.

Your commitment to this idea that they should tank the season while literally being in playoff position is the most stubbornly bonkers thing on this site since dmaineah's JBJ loathing.Ironic because the whole time this thread has been going on I've been thinking "this conversation just isn't the same without a handful of posts insisting on Eovaldi as the closer." To make this relevant, My main concern is that Barnes hits the IL to rest and hopefully get back to where he needs to be. Ideally they mix and match in the meantime and see if anyone jumps out as an alternative solution if needed. The problem with the Eovaldi as closer idea is he is the only starting pitcher consistently going even five inning. And that right there is the problem and why the bullpen is in tatters. It's quite obvious that Barnes has never been good back to back or when used heavily. Which makes him the same as most relief pitchers. Even Robles. One night he is 98-99 and one night later he is 95-96 with less command. It's really the loss of command which causes things to spiral. You start to see any pitcher throw 25+ pitches in an inning and by the end of the inning they are gassed. The next night it's even worse. This is a huge and unsolvable problem with the starters going 2-3-4 innings on a frequent basis.
