Shipley is an unpolished pitcher because he has only two year's pitching experience. But he has very good foundations to be a front line starter. His delivery and athleticism are ideal. He has potential three plus stuff. Fastball sits at low 90's and is likely to be up to mid 90's. Changeup is a wipeout pitch graded as 65 right now. He didn't throw much of curve but it has plus potential. I would pick Shipley over Barnes even though the difference isn't big.

I am against promoting Vazquez soon. His bat speed is mediocre. He needs to learn how to deal with hard stuff. Then AA is the best place for him. I think he will figure out by shortening his swing. He is said to be a hard worker and smart kid.

I think there is only one guy who should be promoted soon. He is Cecchini. He won't learn a lot in single A.

It's warming up and so is he. I read somewhere that almost a lot of the Dutch WBC guys got off to slow starts ... honestly, too lazy/busy to check that out, but there ya go. Actually I checked after around 10 games. That's true.

Don't forget about Manuel Margot. He is really loved by scouts. If he produces in Lowell he would be top 100.

Just saw Gammons drop this note... Peter Gammons @pgammo Red Sox 7th pick in draft and info:Georgia:scout Tim Hyers is Clint Frazier's neighbor and Austin Meadows' hitting coach. I would settle for either one. Really want Frazier, but I would take Meadows over any of the 2nd tier college pitchers. Agreed.

Carlos Ruiz has been a pretty good defensive catcher. Top 5? Probably. I think he could be the target.

Lester is off to arguably the best season start of his career, and one bad outing and all of a sudden everyone turns on his production again? Come on now. Time to rehash the debate on what # starter Lester is. He's a top 2 starter on a good to great team. He's 10th in WAR over the past 3 seasons, 7th over the past 5 years. He's got a better defense behind him and a competent manager/pitching coach for the first time in a few years. Completely agreed.

Bard allowed single, double, wild pitch(a run) and a walk. I am happy not to see that in the big league.

@seadogsradio 6m Brandon Workman has retired the first 12…dominating with every pitch…3 K's. 42 pitches/30 strikes. Portland leads 1-0 after 3 Looks like someone heard the SP podcast say he doesn't have dominating enough stuff to be a starter. I heard that Brandon Workman cleaned up his delivery. A higher arm slot. Better overall command and better consistency of curveball.

Brentz BB/K ration is around 0.42 right now. While that may not be great, it's better than is 0.30 ration last year in AA and 0.34 ration the year before in A/A+ and then 0.27 in Lowell. So he seems to be improving this, admittedly in SSS. What are acceptable BB/K rates? At what point does it start to get more concerning? For those that have seen him this year in person, what are you seeing? Does he seem to have made some improvement in his pitch selection/patience? Generally speaking, league average is 20%(K%) and 10%(BB%).

I read Anthony Ranaudo's interview. He praised Christian Vazquez's defense and also said that every pitcher really love pitching to him.

There are two good references for Cecchini's callup.
Kalish .304 .434 .513 .947 (BB% 18.2%, K% 14%) with Salem - 32 games Bradley.359 .480 .526 1.006 (BB% 17.3%, K% 13.3%) with Salem - 67 games
Cecchini has played 20 games in Salem so far. .373 .466 .640 1.106 (BB% 14.8 K% 13.6%)

Christian Vazquez hit 2 LD singles to the CF against LHP. Good up the middle approach. He really hits well against LHP. Could be a great platoon catcher at the highest level.

According to the reports, Coyle has a few weaknesses at the plate. Overswinging at times, Too pull conscious, and having trouble in picking up off pitches. He seems to have improved on the areas this season but I don't know how much he improved. I am looking at his K% and BB%, which might be the sign about his skills. Hopefully he should be better over time. Clearly I am intrigued by his tremendous raw power.

Travis Shaw has a 25% BB rate! I really don't know what kind of hitter he is. Even the God of walk had 18% walk rate for his minor career.

Garin Cecchini 2/4 with a triple. Scouts have loved his offensive potential and I think this is his breakout season.

Cecchini works a BB against Zimmer and then Jacobs doubles to LF for the RBI. Patience and power.
