Esplin has also been playing a lot of CF lately. He’s started 14 times in center field, including 8 out of the last 11 games. It’s interesting that he’s getting so much time in center when Cole Brannen is on the team and is a more natural center fielder. At the beginning of the year it was mostly Brannen in CF and Esplin in right but since the start of June they’ve flipped. Esplin is definitely not a natural center fielder but it seems like he can field it competently enough because they keep putting him out there.

Roldani Baldwin making his professional debut at 2B. With Potts back at 3B and Hernandez at C along with Pereda, they’re getting creative to get him on the field.

The return of Chris Sale could be the kind of storyline that drives a season and tightens a team up. Looking forward to him getting back on a mound.

Arauz doesn’t hit a lot of home runs but every one I’ve seen has been an absolute bomb. He has some sneaky power when he gets a hold of one. Go ahead 3 run shot in the 7th.

With 4 possible position player injuries needed to bring him to the majors and a 40-man roster crunch coming, I’d be surprised if Wilson isn’t traded at some point. An Aybar/Koss trade seems to be the most likely scenario. Given his proximity to the majors and his great (admittedly inflated) AAA numbers, I feel like Wilson could net a decent enough lower level prospect.

Credit to the hitters for beating up on bad competition, but 3 of the 5 weeks that Greenville has played have been against the two worst pitching staffs in the league. They've done two series against Asheville, which has been said to be the worst pitching staff in the whole minors. Again, they get credit for hitting well, but take it with a grain of salt.

There really do not see to be many further questions about his offensive abilities. He can run, hit, and hit with power. All the questions seem to be about his defense. I hear his arm is not particularly strong and he apparently has still not mastered tracking fly balls. So I have to ask, how bad was he at second base? Could they switch him back there to get him to the majors earlier? It isn't like the Red Sox have an all start at second at the present. Betts was able tp make the switch from second to the outfield with no problem. That doesn't mean everyone ( Duran) can. Could he field well enough at second to play there and help the big league team? Anyone who remember him play a second have an opinion? Duran hasn’t played in the infield in 3 years. They aren’t moving him back there to get him to the majors.

Joe Davis is a joy to watch. 2 home runs and a single bring his OPS up to 1.000. Big Joe tried to turn the single into a double in the second inning and it was almost funny to watch him rumble around the base path. I love that man.

Nice start for Zeferjahn. His first time going 5 innings this season and he didn't allow a run. Only 3 hits given up and struck out 5. Last four games: 16 IP, 13 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 13 K. 2.81 ERA

Greenville’s rotation gets a bit more crowded (Groome, Van Belle, Murphy, Bello, Shugart, and now Grambell). Things tend to work themselves out but they’ve been sticking with a 5 man rotation so far so who, if anyone, gets pushed out once Grambell makes his way in.
De La Rosa will probably head to Fort Meyers and join an interesting rotation with Liu, Encarnacion, Cruz, Loubier, and Gonzalez. Could easily imagine a breakout pitcher or two coming from that group.
My amateur guess at rankings would probably put Grambell somewhere in the Politi/Zeferjahn range until we get a better look at him. Worst case scenario is he’s a reliever with a mid-90s fastball and a plus breaking ball. If his athleticism improvement let’s him stick as a starter and the changeup continues developing then maybe he ends up more in the Murphy/Winck range. De La Rosa is a little more difficult to tell. Perales/Cruz/Gonzalez sit 47/48/49 right now. Would be easy to throw him in there and see who out of the four steps up.

Marcus Wilson just hit his 3rd home run this week. Bad camera angle but it looked like a Worcester home run to right field. With the 40 man crunch, Wilson could be a guy to sell high on if he keeps hitting like this. Numbers are definitely inflated hitting in Worcester though.

He's 19, so would have jumped from DSL to full-season if so (I think he got like 4 GCL at bats). For reference, none of our signings in that period (Eduardo Lopez, Darel Belen, Bryan Gonzalez, etc.) are playing in full-season ball. You'd have to think he'll slot in with that group. That’s going to be a very prospect heavy GCL lineup. Count me in.
