Got a break there. Could have easily been the end of the inning. Instead the bases are loaded again.
EDIT: ****.

Frustrating game for the offense. O'Brien was talking about Odorizzi's low pitch count. It's low because he's throwing pieces of meat that the Sox are lining right at people.

Some hard contact in that inning. Betts, Hanley, Leon all smoked the ball.
Rotten luck.

Dung Beetles push Culpa around. This is a terrific insult.

Wonder how many bullets he has left. Wouldn't object to bringing him out for the seventh on a short leash... Bottom of the order coming up.

I don't know why they're even bothering but OK. Agree. He's a great athlete and he was apparently very good in high school, but that was a long time ago. He's 29 now. He's not going to fly through the minors, and on the off chance he's good enough to advance at all, he'll get to the majors on the other side of 30. Don't see the point.

I don't think I've ever heard of a Three True Outcomes pitcher before.

Can't throw a pitch in that spot and expect to get it back. Lucky this game isn't 7-0.

Owens hasn't pitched as bad as the final line will look like. He really hasn't.

Remind me again of why the Sox just kinda...let Alex Wilson, you know...leave. For nothin'. When their bullpen was (and still kinda is) a mess? Uh, the Red Sox didn't let Wilson leave for nothing, he was part of the Cespedes-for-Porcello trade. And I think he was considered a throw-in by most. At the time, he looked like a guy who might knock around for a little while as a fungible middle reliever. He's substantially outperformed expectations.

That Hanley liner up the middle is exactly why many teams play a middle infielder by second base when he hits. Detroit didn't and it worked for us.
Also, damn it Hanley.

I think Xander is either hurt or gassed - my guess is some sort of leg injury. His power has vanished at the plate, his range at SS has disappeared (to the point that he has looked like a liability for the last month or so) and he's not running when he gets on base.
Whatever is ailing him, I hope it heals up soon. We need him.

Mookie BABIP: .315 Mookie BA: .315 This is the scary thing - given Mookie's skillset, his BABIP might actually be a tad low. Yet he's still putting together a hell of a case for 2016 MVP. The only thing Trout has on him this year is walks and reputation. And granted, you can't just shove a .400+ OBP under the rug like it doesn't matter; it does. But Mookie has been special.

Mookie Betts has very loudly become this team's best player in the last month or two.
