Sale worked out for the most part, but Moncada is headed for a 5-6 WAR season at under $1M salary, with 4 morecontrol years, including improved defense to where he’s an asset at 2b, and looking like a perennial 5-8 WAR player at just 24. The Sox didn’t “Win” that trade, they lost a massive amount in terms of $/value (Sale cost them $30M per season when you include the $60M in investment in signing Moncada, non of which they recouped through excess value). Sale has been good, but the scales for that trade are massively tipped to Chicago, without even mentioning Kopech/xBasabe I'm sorry but what are you talking about? He's at 3 bwar and on the injured list with a hamstring strain. Even if healthy how would he ever get to 6 bwar? It took him 97 games to get 3 bwar. Also where is the improved D at 2B? He's played 3B all year long and has been a negative defender, just like when he played second last year. He's having a very nice year, but he's not the player you think he is. Maybe in time, but not even close this year. Which is key because if he does reach that level, he won't be making a million dollars either. Bottom line. No trade for Sale, no world Series win in 2018. The trade was well worth the cost.

You would think that this GM was a rookie with no track record. Sure he has made a few mistakes. What GM has not. The bullpen is tired because our starters have underperformed. On paper we had starters 7 deep heading into the season. A Healthy Eovaldi, a Sale pitching to his historic average, and a Price pitching to his historic average and this team is competing with the Yankees for the division lead with the same bullpen.

Reason #43586 why baseball has fallen so far behind the NBA, the NFL and Curling. Because no one is interested in "going for it" hoarding prospects has taken over for balls. The Red Sox do not have the org depth to be considered a hoarder of prospects.

Rawlings is actually owned by Seidler Equity. MLB has a minority position next to Seidler. Seidler is owned by brothers Peter and Robert. Peter is the managing partner of the Padres.

Not sure he is worth the 10,000,000 or there about he will get next year and 12 to 15 million a year his next contract will demand. Trade him while he ha value to the team. The team has too many other guys that will need big dollars to retain. JBJ dollars will be needed elsewhere.

My thoughts about the trade deadline have been re-enforced. Be a seller, not a buyer.

cora indicated that after Nunez being DFA'd, expect more moves to be made. I would send down /brasier and bring up De La Guerra for the right handed bat. the only trouble is he seems to be injured often. He has a good bat that nunez didn't have this year. He may need some time to get back hitting though too. Brasier has been too on and off which they can't afford right now, so he needs to figure it out down below. Owings could also be a possibility, but I would prefer De La Guerra. I like De La Guerra, and Brasier at a minimum needs a break to rest, but with the starters going so short, I don't think they care afford to shorten the pen.

For the right deal anyone is touchable. Those deals may not ever materialize, but everything and every player does have a price.

After this weekend can we start focusing on 2020? We have a decent team in 2019, but the Sox are not going far in the playoffs, in fact they are likely not going there at all. A team will want Porcello and Holt as rentals. Saves some payroll and maybe the team can get some decent prospects in return. More controversial is Bradley. The team cannot afford to sign every younger guy on the roster. With a controllable year left Bradley could bring a pretty good return. Time to send him off. Sometimes you just have to move on and build for the future. Is this a joke? Not a joke. Just looking at the team as a business and evaluating the best opportunities for the team in the short and long term. This team is not destined to win it all. Early season injuries and player regressions have sealed its fate. This is still a very good team. Get value out of short term contracts and a contract that will likely not be extended in order to build for 2020.

Welp, I’ll see you fellows in the draft and MiLB gamedays. All set w the big league team this year. I know how this ends. No sense staying on the tracks once you’ve seen the light. Smh. See you in a week. Sometimes it is best to know when to fold. It appears to be that time. Sell some guys off, build the farm, find a few payroll dollars, come back next year in position to win it all.

I would agree on seller mode. Bradley, Holt and Porcello would be my first choices to sell. Cut some payroll and build the farm up a bit. Why? The Red Sox are a high revenue team with good ownership. Their goal every year is to win the World Series. If you can do that by trading prospects, you do it. This is not 2012. Hell, if you told me today that a trade of Dalbec and Mata gets you THE GUY that gets the team through the Wild Card and to the World Series again I'd do it in a heartbeat. I would make the trade you propose as well, however I don't think this team is an average player at the right position from going far in the playoffs. In that scenario I start preparing myself for 2020. Trade away some short term contracts that I likely won't/can't resign to teams that think they can make a deep push, save a few bucks this year, and pick up some controllable salaries for the next couple years on a few guys that are either close, or have a bunch of options left. his team really needs to build the farm a bit so they will have the flexibility to sign stars from other teams or resign its own stars in the near future.

Yeah, the Indians would be crazy to sell anyone while being in the WC spot. But the Red Sox would be crazy if they didn't sell everyone they could even if they had the same record. I would agree on seller mode. Bradley, Holt and Porcello would be my first choices to sell. Cut some payroll and build the farm up a bit.

Nunez again. Why, Alex, why???😟 Well, at least he's DHing, so he can only kill us on one side of the ball. As for why... well, he literally has no other choice, right? In this case I'd put the blame on roster construction rather than Cora. I do not understand why the team hangs with a 207 hitting DH will Marco Hernandez sits in AAA. Marco is not some kid who has never been in the bigs,

With Holt ready to come back this weekend could this be the last game for Nunez? Good lord, one would hope so. Nothing personal against the guy, but he has just been awful out there. If not Holt, Marco Hernandez seems ready to come up.

40 man crunch? Does anyone think they're worried about losing Ryan Weber? It is not Weber that creates the crunch. The crunch comes if the team is in a position due to injury where they have to add another player to the roster. If we lost a catcher right now, someone would need to be added to the 40 and someone would have to be removed.

Maybe the 40 man crunch is resolved by moving Brian Johnson to the 60? He has already been down 30. If he is out until at least June 6th this would work.

Brewer needs to go down, Thornburg is either hurt or needs rehab. Add a position player and Ryan Weber to replace.

Tell Thornburg he is hurt and needs a long rehab before coming back. I am willing to believe he needs more time, just not on the MLB roster. I would carry 13 position players, not 12. Probably add Lin, at least until I see where Marco gets to on the rehab. I think I try to talk to Pedroia to retire or take a long rehab to see if he can make a return. He was rushed. I would trade Nunez for whatever I could get to dump payroll if nothing else. Send down Colten Brewer and add Ryan Weber

we could use Moncada's .982 OPS It would be nice, but I liked having Sale and winning the World Series last year. If you want great sometimes you have to sacrifice great.

Or if it is Darwinzon does he stick with Eovaldi being out 4 to 6 weeks. This could be an audition.

Even if Pedroia does not come back soon, Marco is not that far out and could be the Chavis replacement id Pedroia is not

In the next contract there will likely be a minimum share of the gross that is required to go to the players. It will be interesting to see how much of the players money the union is willing to dedicate towards minor league players. The union has no vested interest in the minor league getting anything. And here lies the problem of paying minor league players a fair rate of pay. Neither side has any real upside. In truth, the union has more to lose than the owners
