Curious, I thought Targets went out of business long ago. Stock is near an all-time high. A consistent 4% profit margin on a consistent $75 billion of sales.

Jhon Nunez. C, AA.
Would be a big plus if he could backup catcher, even for a brief period. A few years away.
Switch hitter, pinch runner. Played LF off bench one game recent. Could develop into a second position. Will all that add up to a Rule 5 selection by an NL club? Doubtful. But keep an eye on him if he continues to hit.

They’re not going to do that but even if they wanted to... What contracts are you getting rid of that aren’t coming off the books next year already? Porcello would bring back something in return, same with Moreland. JDM would net a good return too. If they do tank I would think that anyone with a substantial cost is on the table. Can we assume Porcello will get a Qualifying Offer this fall? And same for J.D., unless something precludes it.

If Porcello is not traded, does he get a Qualifying Offer this fall?

If they were to trade the ten players that are ready to go, the return would be massive.

Thornburg is the highest paid reliever on the team. That says a lot. Panda is the highest paid infielder on the team. That says a lot.

With Hernandez finally back are we able to safely DFA Nunez now? Is Chavis going back to AAA? Likely.

Odd lineup in game 1
Nunez is worse than Travis in LF? Guess he gave it up

Jantzen Witte with today's "taking one for the team" award, pitching the last inning of a PawSox loss in the first game of the DH. Maybe don't look at the box score. Perhaps they'd best stick with Mike Miller & Cole Sturgeon in that role. EDit: Note ... Marco H is not injured. He was ejected from game 2, arguing a strikeout. Hardy starting game 2. Gets the 4-level slam.

Sox facing yet another reincarnation of Cy Young tonight. Sigh. Hometown fans get to see a pitching masterpiece.

Salem: Duran, 2 more weeks & he could have played in CAR all-star 6/18. I'm sentimental 'bout such things.

Portland Top of the 2nd Joey Curletta hit by pitch. Injury Delay. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Jeremy Rivera replaces Joey Curletta. Cody Asche grounds into a double play, first baseman David Thompson to shortstop Andres Gimenez. Jeremy Rivera out at 2nd.
Binghamton Bottom of the 2nd Defensive Substitution: Ricardo Cubillan replaces Jeremy Rivera, playing third base.
I surmise that Rivera was also injured.

Steve Pearce was placed on the 10-day injured list with a lower-back strain, so Travis will come up to take his place as a right-handed bat off the bench. He could get some starts against left-handed pitchers in the short term, and may even get some starts against righties as Mitch Moreland is also on the IL with a minor back injury. Travis was hitting .251/.359/.371 with three home runs in 49 games at Triple-A. Travis is not an MLB player, and I don’t even know if he can play at replacement level, but it is what it is. Personally, I would’ve called up Hernandez and put Chavis on first til Moreland comes back. At that point I DFA Nuñez, and use Chavis as the first baseman against lefties, and Hernandez as utility guy,/second baseman vs. lefties. In the SSS dept.: Travis in May .797 OPS. Travis vs LHP .835 OPS

I'm in the minority in believing that the Sox have a solid Eleven on the staff.
Erasmo, Mejia, Tapia, Runzler, Montgomery, Putnam: they signed these guys to provide plenty of barely-adequate depth. Yet, they've gotten nothing from them at this point. Having eight starters coming into spring training probably was an obstacle on signing quality SP for AAA.
The extra starters were Johnson, Velazquez, Wright.

Complete game shutout for Hart. 9IP 5H 0BB 8K 108p !!/ 74s 6GO/ 7FO faced 31 batters Gotta admit I've never paid any real attention to Kyle Hart on this site...until today. Hart is not on the 40-man yet. But at age 26, I don't think the Sox will hesitate to start the clock on him this summer. The promotion to AAA seemed a bit slow. Eastern League all-star in '18. Edit: if the Ranking of 55 on the prospect list reflects a consensus, maybe he's got a way to go still.

Never has an AL team scored in all 9 innings of a game. Edit: In 1923, Indians scored in all 8 innings of a 27-3 victory over BoSox. Cleve was the home team The streak continues. 118+ AL seasons without a 9-inn feat.

Kinda wish Josh Ock got a call-up with Mitchy down Not on the 40-man roster. I assume Sox don't want to start burning options for a brief stint. Maybe later in the year. Won't burn an option that way.

Count the number of blowout games this month. Cora does not do late inning subs. Doesn't rest Xander nor Mookie. Does Cora need a real-time Win Probability chart? I am not going to bet against Cora after last year. He clearly has a plan and runs with it, and it is hard to argue with success. I think there is a method to his madness - who he uses and doesn't use, and when - Anytime you can get an extra PA for Nunez, Pearce, Leon, it has to help them. They each average less than 1.5 PAs per day. Wonder why other teams sub. 8 blowout games in May.
