My mind is pretty much as it was even before a game was played. I think the hitting will be OK. I think the rotation is generally weak and the bullpen will be super - a better than .500 team when all is said and done.

Yeah I still think you missed how tongue-in-cheek even THAT was. Very few people were deluded to his actual ability as much as we had fun celebrating his spurts of hotness and annoyed as you constantly raining on that parade. Didn’t seem all that tongue in cheek. But I’ll start assuming people don’t mean it in the future when they get excited about guys they shouldn’t. I always said that Franchy "is a ballplayer."

Season just started and I already find this team unlikable. Very entertaining team ... Dalbec at SS yesterday ... the drama of injuries ... the wait for Mata, Hamilton, Rafaela. What am I missing?

Sox Nation is gloomy and it doesn't help that they read the likes of Tomase. He seems to have a neurotic condition and should take a Xanax before sitting at the keyboard.
Apparently, the Sox have no depth ... which is an insult to Refsnyder et al. Yeah, Sox could have signed Iglesias & JBJ and traded off some younger players.
We've survived the past 24 hours.

1. With a 3-run lead in the 9th, Cora doesn't do any defensive replacements. Refsnyder is not enough of an upgrade, apparently.
2. With Refsnyder in today's lineup, he's in LF. Guess he's not an upgrade in CF or RF.

The 6 core relievers have an ERA of 2.30
The rotation is the weak spot of the team, but that's been known for months.
Cora has a challenge managing this rotation without exhausting the bullpen

Catcher Marchan placed on 60-day IL to make room for Song. Hamate bone.
Phillies will need that spot sooner or later.

Just read something I was not aware of. Cora is 0 for 5 on opening day games. Of course it is a meaningless stat...but interesting Cora didn't come to win. An off day yesterday and an off day tomorrow ... There's no need for Wong & Ort. Cora decided it was a throw away game

They're 40 players on the Phillies 40-man. Song has to come off "military Reserve" on or about 04-14 and go on the 40-man.
Song gets paid then. Phillies would pay the price of removing some player ...

Soon, Noah will be pitching in a location that is suitable. And Song-Sanity will have returned.

Does anyone know if 60 day DL timing could be retroactive to the start of Spring Training? Wondering because if so if it is say Feb 13 and guys like Mondesi and Whitlock aren't ready for the first couple weeks of the regular season they could conceivably use the 60 day to buy the team a little time on 40 man decisions. Example: To avoid Goodrum's upward mobility clause they move Mondesi to the 60 day and select Goodrum. Then say Mondesi is ready on exactly day 60 to be added they've bought a couple weeks to debate between Goodrum/Ort for that spot or try to sneak one of them through the DFA process. Typing it out like that I'm not sure it would be a worthwhile thing to do anyways but just sort of curious about it. As of '22, the IL starts 3 days before opening day. That's March 27. 60 days is May 26. No indication that the rule has changed.

So who’s getting booted from the 40-Man if they need to add Alfaro to start the year? Ort has played himself back to milb roster ... could clear.

Philly will pay a price if they go forward with Song when he comes off the Military Reserve list about 4/15.
They'll have to clear somebody off their 40-man and somebody off the 25-man.
They'll be blocked from making waiver claims for desired players, etc.
Their plan was for '24 ... Song will be back in Sox A-ball soon, a non-rostsr minor leaguer

No chance Song sticks with Phillies. He's Song, not Whitlock.
If he shows anything, the Phillies can trade him to Pirates, Reds or ChiSox

Barnes would be smart to accept a deal where he accepts assignment and then rejoins the roster on Feb 13 ... to replace Story.
3 weeks

If Sox really are $33M under the tax threshold, spending $10M on Andrus makes sense.

Wong Refsnyder Arroyo Duran Kiké Hamilton Koss Goodrum Rafaela Valdez Sogard Fitz
That's a list of players who theoretically could play part-time at 2B to start the year.
Later in the summer, Lugo, Bonaci, & Paulino are Rule 5 eligible. Story can start a AAA rehab early as DH, pinch-runner.
I see depth, even if it's imaginary ...

1. As most are aware, Pats with a longshot at wildcard if they lose. Can still get in.
2. Cincy offered to suspend the game 3. Cincy has strength of victory over Buffalo. Thus has the tiebreaker and can get the #2 seed. 4. Cincy is now 2 GB the Chiefs. #1 seed no longer matches the facts

In order - my preference - farewell to Brasier...if not him, Darwinzon. If not either, Ort. Wouldn't mind seeing Taylor gone either. Brasier has an MLB contract and MLB contracts are guaranteed ... Maybe. He's ARB. if the 2 parties haven't agreed to terms yet, and he's ends up as a Free Agent ... don't ask me.
