Don't even think I can stomach watching Miller and Allen mow us down again.

The funny thing is that is 100% my stance. It's just sports and it's just an award. My personal happiness, which is why I follow sports, is tied to the success of my team and it's players. I would prefer to see Mookie win but I can't pretend he deserves it over Trout.

Did you think by saying that your methodology would give a beloved Red Sox hero the MVP over A-Rod that I would suddenly do a 180? No, I still think it's stupid.

theoretical, situationally neutral offense? Also known as "performance" or "production" or "what he's paid for".

This game isn't about Clay to me. He can't implode, but after the day off we can easily go to the bullpen after his second time through the order. This game is about us getting to Tomlin and getting a lead before Miller comes in the game. We have the lineup to do it. No excuses.

I think they will be fine too, though Xander specifically looks very lost. Tonight it really comes down to Price - can he deliver 6, 7, 8 strong innings and shake his playoff SSS demons? These playoffs could be a career-defining moment for him. Xander hit .333/.385/.583 in his last 6 games of the season. He looked bad last night, but I think people are overreacting. This isn't 2014 Xander or anything. You don't say.

The Sox had 3 HR, 5 2B, 2 1B, and a BB, and had no GDP or CS ... and scored 4 runs. You won't see that too often. When you hit .278 / .297 / .667 in a game, there's always a chance that too high a percentage of the XBH will happen with the bases empty. In this case it was 7 out of 8 -- and in the exception, a runner was correctly sent home with two outs and got thrown out by a near-perfect relay. Yep. That was Bauer's first start without a walk since July 8...2015. Looking quickly he's only done that 3 times in 92 career MLB starts. Total fluke and that was the difference in the game.

Why is Shaw even on the roster? If he's not gonna PH for Bogaerts in a big spot like that then he has no use.

One pitch even close to the zone in the AB and he strikes out.

This is the kind of stuff a manager gets away with when Dombrowski is your GM. It's enraging.

Exactly. Like I said, the only counterargument is "I can literally vote for anyone I want for any reason."

The most common meaning of the word "valuable" is "worth the most money", which Trout is. Again, I invite you to site an actual dictionary. You aren't the arbiter of what what words mean. However, the BBWA actually is the arbiter of what "most valuable" means. The award description doesn't define it. It says right on the ballot that value is "the strength of a player's offense and defense". It also says the winner "need not come from a playoff team".

They have very consistently voted based on their stupid, arbitrary definition of the word, yes. Bully for them.

When it comes down to it, the "from a playoff team" people are essentially arguing that the rules say they can vote for whomever they want for whatever reasons they want. I hope one year someone takes this to it's logical extreme and votes for a dining room table and Lebron James just to see the uproar among these same BBWAA morons.

Right move or not, I don't know why anyone is surprised by this. They weren't gonna send back their big trade deadline acquisition in the middle of a pennant race.
If they could have done it for lesser compensation, then yeah, that's just insane.
