Just noticed this, but Kyle Hart's pro debut was four years ago today in the GCL. Nice symmetry there. Just saw the interview of him (from yesterday maybe). He seems like a really easy guy to root for. Confident, but humble. He explained his thought going in to the start is that he has to earn another start on the mound this afternoon. Obviously every Sox fan and particularly people on this message board are rooting hard for him to do just that. Early start today. Set your DVR if you can’t watch it live.

If that’s not a metaphor for the Red Sox season... That’s a stupid design for a first baseman’s mitt. A pocket with open areas like that is eventually going to have a ball get stuck just like that.

So Martin Perez is actually a valuable member of the pitching staff. Chaim Bloom for emperor!

It’s ok to be cynical and think Stroman is working the system and opted out not because of an overwhelming concern about the virus but because he does the least amount of work while causing himself the least amount of financial consequences.
Nobody can question him about his motive because only he really knows what’s in his head/heart about this.

Excellent stuff as always. Know that we appreciate your talent. My three favorites are (in order)
Alvarez First one of Leyer First one of Puello
I hadn’t really thought about it until now but I’m mostly defining “favorite” as “compelling”. When the photo makes me want to keep looking at it a bit longer to really observe small details...that’s a photograph I like.
More please.

This isn’t directed at any specific poster and admittedly my thoughts are derived from something Hatfield said a week or so ago in another thread.
I get it that the pitching staff is awful and Ryan Weber has been particularly ineffective but when have we said that enough? I’m not trying to stifle anyone’s thoughts or comments. I mean, the Sox don’t have quality on the mound. Really, we get it. How many clever ways are there to say this? It’s like continuously saying water is wet.
Just my own opinion. Your mileage may vary.

Nice strikeout, Ryan Weber!

Wow, that’s hard to watch, even for an opponent. He actually cannot throw a strike.

All things considered, that first inning could have been a total disaster. Weber giving up only one run seems like a victory.

I’ll play
Up 1) Aldo Ramirez. Except for Groome, he was the prospect I most wanted to follow in 2020. Not that I’ve seen him, but read his write up here. He’s got a chance to be the best pitcher that is currently in the system. Anybody wants on his bandwagon, come onboard with me. 2) Groome. Like Philsbosoxfan, I think he’s going to be healthy and eventually very good. 3) Connor Wong. It feels like he should be ranked higher, but again, I haven’t seen him play. Love that he’s versatile enough to catch and play infield.
Down 1) Casas. I don’t know, I guess I’m scared that he’ll be Middlebooks so I refuse to get too excited. 2) Nick Yorke. I was critical of drafting him. I will be thrilled to be wrong. 3) Don’t have a third. Would be making stuff up just to post.
Right
1) Noah Song. I believe he will be as good as we’d hoped. He will be the definition of a low mileage arm. 2) Houck. I think he’ll provide some decent value to the big club. I’d like to see him pitch as soon as possible in Boston. 3) Jarred Duran. You can’t coach speed. Fast guys are fun to watch.
Final thought...I hadn’t realized Feltman has fallen to 28. I hope he finds himself on the mound. It seemed like the upside was so high for a guy who is barely top 30 in the system now.

Looking over the matchups, I hadn’t fully processed that Ryan Weber hasn’t struck out anyone in his two appearances. I’m not just bashing him. I feel bad for the guy that the team is putting him out there for a third time in a role he isn’t suited for.
Maybe he found something on the off days and he’s going to provide some decent innings tonight. One can hope. If I’m managing him tonight and he completes the fourth inning having given up 2 runs or less I’d probably pull him solely so he can go into the next start with a modicum of confidence. It’s not like the pen isn’t expecting to do a lot of work tonight anyway, especially after an off day.

I really appreciate Chavis' bat flip/mic drop thing. Subtle yet effective. Completely agree. The lack of “flair” somehow is more dramatic. Or something like that.

Who says this Sox team doesn’t have a decent offense? Xander with a wall ball double and CV with his 10th RBI!
edit. And Chavis absolutely having a night!

Every time the Sox play on ESPN I complain about the broadcast crew.
I’m sorta bored hearing myself complain. It’s kinda like complaining that it’s hot in North Carolina in August. What’s the point, right? But I can’t help but put it out there that the sheer exuberance showed by this dolt doing the play by play when Aaron Judge hit a HR is annoying beyond my tolerance. His voice cracked when he called the home run. Dude, just announce the game and get over your crush on the Yankees. ARod is Vin Scully next to this tool.

Hypothetically, if I’m in confession do I have to tell my priest that I want bad things to happen to Brett Gardner? I’m pretty sure that makes me a bad person.

I’m happy to give Bloom some time to build this up. But I’m surprised he didn’t get any starting depth after trading Price. Having 3/5ths of the rotation comprised of guys who can’t get through 3 innings is tough to watch. I’m ok with the losing part but getting torched in the 1st inning every game is unwatchable Adding someone like Taijuan Walker made so much sense. Well. There’s the whole luxury tax thing. So Bloom didn’t have a lot of financial flexibility to do much. Plus, he can’t know Sale is going to break down in ST. He can’t know ERod is going to be a COVID casualty. He can reasonably expect Perez to be something like a number 4 starter. They went into March with a plan for one spot in the rotation being an opener. It’s been a perfect storm for Chaim Bloom and the organization. I’m not ready to be critical of what he’s done.
