In 2018, Sox down 6-1 in the 4th, you’d say, “They got em right where we want em.” Sadly this ain’t 2018.

This is bad boys. The Orioles are awful. What is going on ?? A pitching staff that is composed almost entirely reclamation projects?

Can we get the bullpen up or no? Yeah, there’s like 20 guys out there ready to pitch.

Imagine if we had to watch this crap over 162 games? Over/under of 15 wins? I get what you’re saying, but I really mean it when I say I am really glad to just be watching baseball. A win on any given day is gravy to me. Maybe I will get cranky if they have a five game losing streak, but I don’t think so.

Man we could use a Wakefield, the guy would be our #2 right now. Think about that - our longtime No. 5 SP was better than our 2020 No. 1 - and you'll understand why I think this team will have trouble winning 25/60- games. It isn’t hard to make the case that 2020 is a “bridge” year. Maybe they luck their way into the expanded playoffs.

So these soft tossers like Ryan Weber make me nervous. Wakefield made me feel the same way. It’s like I am waiting for the next pitch to just get crushed. I have only seen Weber throw one time in the start he made recently against the Blue Jays. He pitched well then so I am hoping that carries over.

I absolutely want a seat. I think he’s gonna be fun to watch. Count me in as a charter member. Pass. When he finishes top-10 in MVP for the fourth time, wins one, wins a gold glove etc etc etc... Otherwise, I don’t get on platoon-player trains. Boiling hot take... Benintendi is going to play his way into a fourth outfielder role, so Verdugo won’t be platooning. Also, nobody expects him to replace Mookie’s production. I’m on his bandwagon because he seems to be a guy who loves to play. There’s a joy that I see. Granted, my sample size is tiny and I don’t know him personally. I don’t have Mookie to root for any more, so there is a void. Martin Perez and Dylan Covey just showed me they can’t fill it. Alex Verdugo is my boy!

Dylan Covey was Dylan Covey and the Sox offense basically stranded their baserunners. If there was a picture of spaghetti sliding down a wall, it has to be the spitting image of Covey. He has no business on a team that is trying to contend. If he stays on the roster for a couple more weeks that tells you what you need to know about the Sox intentions of winning.

By the way, I want to say publicly, since so many are so down on him due to the circumstances of his arrival to the franchise, I will be happy to lead the Verdugo bandwagon this season. There's plenty of room. Let me know if you need a ticket. I absolutely want a seat. I think he’s gonna be fun to watch. Count me in as a charter member.

Three hits tonight for JBJ. Apparently this short season is going to include at least some of “I-can-hit-.400-Jackie “. Good for you Jackie.

Pedrofan.....wherever you may be. Love the Red Sox, enjoy the season !!! I’m also wondering if JimEd14 has decided not to post anymore. The game day thread will be different without him. I leave open that he’s just busy tonight, but I kinda think he’s moved on.

I’m forced to watch the Orioles broadcast on MASN. Baseball blackout rules are pretty stupid in a normal year. In a COVID shortened season those rules are just plain dumb.

Been waiting a long time for this thread. I need a sports distraction more than I can ever remember. I honestly don’t care if the 2020 Sox stink (I prefer that they’re super). I’m glad to be watching baseball.

I’m irrationally angry.
Not at Mookie and not at the Sox, I’m just upset I don’t get what I want. I wanted to watch him have a HOF career playing in Boston. You get attached to players. We all followed him here since he was about 20 years old. We watched him become an MVP.
It sucks he won’t have a “B” on his hat.

Just now realizing that I am not going to get to watch much MLB.TV this year. The Philippines school year is 3 months ahead of the USA school year so, my kids are in school. However, in their case, in school means Zoom. Classes start at 7:30 AM 6 days a week, same time as USA night games on the East coast. Two zooms and a baseball game simultaneously all smooth is unlikely. Crap. Ouch.
Find a way. Get a WiFi booster or whatever. Let someone adopt one of the kids.

Thrilled for Bard. Just completely thrilled. The guys like him and Rick Ankiel who pick themselves up and get back to the show are so much fun to root for.

The Red Sox need a huge minor league question mark to step forward - Groome would be that guy. He's the only guy in the upper level capable of being a front-line starter. It’s weird to think of Groome as an “upper level” guy. He hasn’t ever pitched above Greenville and that was 2017. Agree that it would be fantastic for him to make a big step forward.

The Kopech decision is a little surprising. Just expanding on what Brock Holt said about his own situation, I kind of assumed most players that opted out would be established players already on long term deals. Price is the perfect example.
I’m not questioning his decision. Just saying he’s way outside the profile of guys I expected to see opting out. It’s interesting.
