Gotta get a break from the hockey gods on a weird deflection soon especially since we've had two incredible deflections that found Anderson instead of going in. That Bergeron deflection in the second period was amazing, what a change of direction...

Love to see the ENTIRE on ice team crashing the goal there...nice effort. Blue Collar Bruins Style!
Ugh...unfortunately followed by Debrusk missing so much empty net and hitting Anderson in the chest. wow

Even the NBC announcers seemed to be saying we got a bit pass happy there. Krejci tried to force that pass you mentioned, AND, McAvoy doesn't shoot that puck from 5 feet wide open, tries to pass instead. Oof!

What is this thing with Pasta falling in love with the spinorama backhand passes lately? Anyone else notice that? It's usually way off the mark too, but it's like some new thing he's in love with lately or something.

LOL. And Coyle with a terrible defensive play, bailed out by Rask, followed by a great play to set up a goal. That Coyle offensive play might have been the best I've seen from him in a Bruins sweater. Rask though tonight....man. I know, i know, the bodies are in front of him, but he didn't even have his stick covering his 5 hole on that 2nd goal. Wow that was frustrating. Clearly Bergeron doesn't miss that many faceoffs in the D end, but you gotta be ready. Team feels better tonight though overall on offense. More motion, more effort. At least through one period.

Well, it won't be Lauzon's fault if we lose tonight. I think Clifton is a better player at this stage, but two RH shots together is a little awkward. And, since Washignton's game plan was clearly to flood the front of the net with bodies, losing the most physical D-man probably doesn't help as much as some people think. Clifton's insane number of penalties in the regular seasons scares me too...I hope he can find the line, or have the team tell him where the line is, and not cross it to feed the Caps too many PPs. Of course, some of those games when he was heavily penalized were those games when it felt like the refereeing was horrible and inconsistent on standard of conduct. I recognize I'm hard on Lauzon, but incidentally, has anyone seen Charlie Coyle recently? You can barely tell he's on the ice. Certainly he's not making himself known all that well. Is he another one of these hurt guys under the radar we're going to hear has 5 surgeries in the off season? Or is this who he is and why Minn. let him go?

the GA/60 doesn't look like skill to me, looks like some babip style luck. Who he's played with, or the lines he's played against. I believe it with McAvoy, he's out there against the best. Lauzon looks more like the guy who got to play in all the Sabres games against their 3rd and 4th lines.
He was on the ice for two of the three goals against last night. Was the game winner in OT his fault? After he hit the lead guy in the back--as he seems to do programmatically--then he was sitting in his space to the left of Rask, watching it go in. Now granted, we've seen the best of the best playoff defensemen actually drift back behind the goalie there and save some of those, but can you EXPECT that of someone so inexperienced? I wouldn't say so. I would instead nitpick on Rask there--he completely lost track of the puck and hit it in himself on a puck that was going directly downward off his chest, Rask put it in with his leg pads trying to reposition them to squeeze, he knocks it back and in. I'm strongly in the play Swayman camp. I think it's time to move on and rely on someone with faster twitch skills in that position at this point when Swayman's positioning has been demonstrably fine, and his focus has been great this year so far. Ride the hot hand. I think Rask has been borderline mailing it in now for a couple years with only a couple stretches where he wasn't distracted and was really focused, not just an excellent positional goalie. There was zero motion in his glove hand on the first goal. Rask looks reaction slow to me. Positionally sound, but otherwise cooked at times.
The issue I have with the 2nd goal is that sure, Lauzon's battling Ovi, (who I have a great deal of dislike for as well, and don't understand why the players conduct committee farce doesn't sanction him at all--which for me feeds into Wilson's behavior and feeling he can get away with what he does, because Ovi does) and the battle with Ovi takes up 100% of his attention. There's no awareness on his part, his stick is literally just incidentally stuck to him, swinging around. From better defensemen, I see more awareness in sticks down on the ice, sticks in passing lanes, etc. Even when they're tussling, they can shoulder someone, body up on someone, and still have some presence of mind. I'm not saying that's a 100% thing, but with Lauzon I see someone who plays more like what we expected Tinordi to play like. Unconscious thug like, and I think he can be better than that. I see him on offense with some accuracy on a wrister to hit the deflector in front with some consistency. I know he has it in him. He just goes unconscious on D a lot.
for the ST time, I was looking at the game log quickly and I thought they credited him with 7 seconds of time or something, I must have misread that, apologies. I do remember him in the box, so obviously you're right since they had the one penalty.

I do watch basically every single game, yes.
Lauzon makes bone headed plays. ok, it's only his 3rd year getting games in the nhl, but in fewer games than the rest in the top 5 for Giveaways on the team, he's there in the top 5 with 20 giveaways to only 7 takeaways.
What has gotten my attention is not that I look for him on the ice, but rather, the game is flowing along well, and all of a sudden, there is a really crap play, and I look to see who it is, or wait for the announcer to get around to revealing who made that terrible play, and many times, it's Lauzon. Of course, this year it's also frequently Pastrnak too. For some reason he's seriously out of sync this year. Doesn't mean he's still not a great shooter, but his passing is off badly this year in general, and sometimes he loses focus and the puck goes over or under his stick, or off his skate and he loses it, or any number of other horrible outcomes that last year happened to him far less. Lauzon has been such a flow killer for this team this year, it's extremely annoying, yes. Multiple games the dude had multiple penalties. He really does seem to be confused out there a lot, and make the wrong play, or end up in the penalty box.
Last night he had 2 giveaways, leading the team. He also saw almost no time on ice for special teams, which is a big downgrade from the season. I hope that trend continues.
I don't see massive upside with this guy in any dimension of his game. feel free to send all the lmaos and and believe he had a good game if you like, but his play and stats don't back it up imho.

and Rask knocked in the third, drops down, knocks it in with his own pad. Good clean play from a sharp team.
Wake up boys, you can outplay this caps team. when you first got Hall, etc. after the trade deadline, you smoked 'em.

So sit everyone and lose to maximize the pick opportunity in this draft.... hmmmm. Actually, play all the "regulars" we've got, including all the time on the court for Smart we can get. That's done pretty well to tank the season already. Do NOT play the kids who have anything to prove, or TimeLord, that has been a formula for winning sometimes, so let's avoid that. #TankforthePick

Unwatchable.
The older I get, the more sour I get about some of these guys making 8 figures, and being able to 100% mail it in 10-20 games a year. Not for lack of talent, or time spent in the gym on off days, etc. But on game day, not figuring out how to show up even when you don't have "it". I always thought that was what was amazing about athletes from the last generation. They might not have "it" that night, but you bet your a$$ they were going to give you a show that night anyway. No mailing it in...

Couple thoughts after an easy win, first game I've been able to watch for a little bit: - Easiest shutout ever for Swayman. - Was prepared to come here and praise DeBrusk's night even before he scored that goal. He was all over it tonight. - I really like Kevin Miller. Underrated player when healthy. - Not to re-hash the couple of posts above this, which were a couple of weeks ago, but I think Lauzon is OK, but he does seem to average one dumb turnover per game. Had another tonight, didn't cost us. - He won't, and shouldn't really, win, but boy Marchand deserves serious MVP consideration. The guy is one of the best and seems to still be getting better. Agreed. At one point the defense just kept puking all over itself, but it's come a long way in the past couple of weeks. Hopefully with Carlo returning, Lauzon sees less time and has less of those 1 off opportunities per night to kill his own team. Recent pet peeve is realizing that Pasta is either all in, or a space cadet. There doesn't seem to be an in between. Lately he's been in space mode, passing to other team, missing sticks by a mile, flailing and not even hitting the puck a lot instead of receiving it. He's so much better than that, you hate to see when he's off his game. Marchand has really been amazing this year overall.

If you recorded the game to watch later, DO NOT WATCH IT. It's literally the least effort I've seen hockey players make in a game. No defender can be bothered to even find a sabre player to defend. lazy, lazy, lazy. Worst Bruins game I've seen.
Can we get rid of Lauzon somehow, like, immediately? I'm so sick of watching him just hand the puck to the opposite team over and over again.

I keep thinking of Tatum's rookie year as I watch him struggle this year. He's such a pure shooter. The way he was used year number one, was that wing 3-pt shooter role. Someone else created his shot for him. That really worked, because his shot is the best part of his game. His handle at this point is really a major weakness in his overall game. So to force him to be the creator at this phase of his career is rushing it a bit. I'd so much rather see him cutting and a good passer finding him. So much of the offense is standing still these days except for the pick and roll/pop guys. I miss more motion in offense off the ball.
If I'm trying to be fully objective, I have no idea how badly COVID has been for him. He's said even months later it's been a struggle. I see the absolute giving up on defense so much and for a max level player it makes me sick, but, I've also never watched a player with 85% lung capacity trying to make it happen every night. Maybe there is some cause to give him some additional slack on D. The handle stuff though...live with a basketball in your hands...there are so many handle drills it's easy to work into your life around the court. That's one area where JB is and has shown so much improvement is with his handle. His wasn't amazing when he hit the league, but it's gotten so much better, and his ability to adapt is vastly superior to Tatum's at present.

Can we start a thread tracking our progress toward the 1/1 pick overall for next year yet? Putrid team is putrid.

ps, Tatum, every other "superstar" we face can figure out how to get an open 3 for themselves. Remains a mystery to you. Maybe it's film time. Bad take, Tatum was clearly the best player on the court tonight. He was unreal on offense, stout on defense, just great all around. The problem was the late game execution, Smart takes an iffy 3 and then follows it up by taking a downright out of balance bad shot to erase the previous miss and that essentially ended the game. It sucks that Nesmith isn't ready and Romeo is hurt because they BADLY need an extra wing out there. Semi and Pritchard combined for 30 minutes and they didn't attempt a single shot. Pritchard won't be that gun shy forever, but Semi is an issue. To say Tatum was the best on the floor is a comparative statement. Ok, fine. It doesn't also mean he can actually get himself a 3. Watch Mitchell in the last few minutes. He can manage to get himself a 3 point shot. Tatum has a great 3-shot, but he really struggles to create one for himself when we need one. One of Tatums major flaws at present is his ball handling. He gets his pocket picked a lot more than you'd like to see a superstar get stripped. It also stands out on the break. If he gets pressured by a reach, sometimes it completely gets him stuck because in his mind, his confidence in his handle is low, so if you take away the thing he was just going to do, you can see his mind sort skip a beat and the confusion comes. Again, doesn't mean "he's bad" or "he wasn't better than the others on the court on his team, on this given night." I have criticisms of Brown too. They've both comes miles since they entered the league, hopefully Tatum's handle can still improve and he's not at his ceiling, and hopefully Brown's touch both at the foul line and in crunch time come around and he's not at his ceiling. They're both REALLY, REALLY good, but they leave you wanting more...and in a game against some of the best, you have to get more from them, and you can't have the supporting cast be so bad--bad shot choices, bad roster rotations, etc.

Smart, 0-3 from 3 point range in the last 2 minutes.
Love having his intensity back on D, did not miss his inability to hit the broad side of the bard in crunch time.

Brutal Choke at the end...granted, a few truly brutal officiating calls mixed in there, but team looked incapable of another gut check. Nothing to be shocked at by now I suppose. When does the 2021-2022 season start again?

I think he was referring to the guy who was 8/9 from the like as not being able to hit FTs. The guy who was 7/23 tonight, missing many layups and shots in the paint. Who is having a career FT year at just under 76%, but his career avg is still ~68%. His touch is garbage.
