Where do you get a player like this Bey kid on Detroit!?!?

Kemba looks like he needs fewer minutes where he needs to focus on specific goals. As pointed out above, this isn't some crappy Hornets team. Pritchard deserves more minutes. His shotting % is vastly superior and his defense is vastly better imho.
If Kemba and Carsen Edwards are ever on the floor together again, someone needs to dump a coke on Stevens head. That was the worse combo I've seen when you're talking about trying to improve team defense. Who is that helping? Are we tanking for a draft pick? Is Brown's knee more serious than reported?
Grant has looked a lot better lately, but I still don't get the lack of PT for Timelord. When he plays high energy like he was right before his COVID bout, he literally changed the entire team. That energy from a big is infectuous.
Is it my imagining it today, or was Tatum's D putrid? He doesn't seem to help. I saw so many drives that went by him (not his man) into the lane, and he can't even be bothered to step in to help close the lane by a step, or try to take a swat at the ball and knock it loose or cause a shot to be altered. He seems flat lazy on team D. Maybe it's because he's carrying so much O-load right now with Brown out, but he looks like he's regressing on defense.

This team plays such unintelligent offense in crunch time. Shouldn't it be obvious to a professional team that some nights certain players are on and some nights they're off? Tonight, Smart's shooting is literally missing, 100%. Air ball 3s, all his shots just way offline generally except one or two 5 footers. WHY is he taking crunch time shots? WHY?!?

Observations tonight so far:
Tatum's handle really isn't amazing. I wonder if he'll ever focus on improving it. Many nights he's pretty sloppy with it.
The Refs absolutely blow tonight. I can't believe some of the calls tonight.
Smart has no handle tonight either. When he doesn't have have a handle it looks like all his fine motor skills are just off a little bit. His passes float into the back court, or out of bounds, or just miss targets entirely.
Detroit looks like a dirty team, lots of cheap shots.

That's the WORST display of D I've seen in ages. Turned it off with a lot of game left because you know the C's are already giving up. Embarrassing...

Queen's Gambit was quite good.
The Expanse Season 5 is fantastic, best season yet imho.

The game looks extremely high effort for Tatum and Brown right now. I'm sure this is probably common so early in the year, but they both seem uncomfortable and like they're having to push extra hard just to get anything currently. I hope to see them relax into the game again soon. That high effort seems to have them both missing tons of shots you normally see them make.

Pritchard's shot looked as advertised tonight.
Nesmith had a nice block from behind.
Watching the last 10 minutes made me realize how redundant so many of these guys are right now. Are Waters or Edwards relevant anymore?

I saw krug routinely make passes into skates, into sticks, to other players. I thought he had a terrible playoffs. I also saw one or two laser passes through 5 people. I don't know that the one is worth the other. He's an undersized defense-man making too much money imho.
Krejci is spent. Again, his passing more often than not is directly to the other team. He had a few plays here and there, but he's lost a step, and doesn't crash the net as often as you'd like a top 2 center to do.
I think you're onto something about Halak.
I also can't believe Pasta just completely falling off a cliff in the playoffs. He literally could not stay on his skates the first few rounds. Completely underwhelming playoffs.
For me Heinen also routinely could not execute on plays. Flew around with a full head of steam, but whenever he got the puck, did nothing or worse than nothing with it.
Sad to see Bergeron not get another, but this core has to get blown up to rebuild around the kids...

Heartbreaking end to the season, but I'm more than ready to see 6-8 of these guys gone. I've watched them rollercoaster over and over and over. Krejci is done, Krug needs to go, Marchand nearly vanished in the playoffs or decided his favorite thing to do was give the puck to the opposing team. Too bad it's at the end of the run for this core of Bergeron. He deserved better, so much better than so much of this cast of idiots.

their zone entries on offense are like they forgot how to play the game, constantly forcing it. Powerplay just goes cold at the most important time of the year.
Best 2018-2019 Boston Celtics impression? Stanley Cup Bruins 2019...

how can a goal scorer watch a puck slowly bounce off their own leg in front of the goal? Pasta is wretched. He's on painkillers or something, his reactions are garbage...

I've been tuned in closely to the bruins this year, it's true it's not why we're losing. There is a laundry list of why. Chara is old as shit and consistently makes bad plays now. Pasta is still apparently injured or completely forgot how to play the game. Players regularly passing terribly, shooting directly into skates. I mean, it's a junior hockey list of don't dos. And a couple games the Bruins have just outright stopped playing for long stretches of time. It's really been their worst hockey since mid-season.

This will go to 50 pages if you don't just let him get the last word. Maybe move it.. Takes up nearly 2 full pages and still shows no signs of abating. Second this motion--if it were NOT mods and editors involved in this discussion, it likely would have been split out into a "Theories about Drafting, fairness, etc." thread days ago. I know I for one love everything this site offers, particularly draft coverage and post draft coverage. I assume like many others, I click on the Post Draft Thread when I see there are new posts, hoping for some news about new signings, but lately, it's been this long debate mostly. Please move that to another thread, powers that be, thank you!

I don't understand the psyche of a person who fails at something repeatedly when all the tools and resources are there for them to not fail if they try. Matt Barnes, does he have something wrong with his brain? His will to be good at something? Guy seems like he doesn't care.

Wait, what?? Still gets a guy perceived to be all star talent. Gets a 2nd likely lottery pick. Can now easier to get max room. And that's sad? I want/prefer Fultz too. But that's a looooong way from sad. It's sad in the sense of tragedy, in the sense of can't get out of your own bleeping way. Where's the point guard coming from for this future amazing nucleus? IT is NOT Thomas. He's too short to be a legit defender against top tier PGs. Statement of fact, not opinion. Against top teams, he vanishes. Fultz was a generational point guard, both ends of the floor player, huge wingspan, was going to step onto that Irving, CP, Westbrook stage as a defender sooner than later. Fultz and Brown on defense, maybe hayward too, yes please. Wishing upon draft picks is not how you make a team, it's how you hope for a team. Making a team and hoping for a team are very different. Josh Jackson might be a very good player too. Or Tatum, or whoever "the wizard trader Danny, in him we trust" thinks is better out of this draft. Today was a colossal mistake. Especially not making it contingent on draft day--ie, let us actually pick and trade fultz, dependent on them picking and trading the guy we want. Otherwise the Lakers take whoever we want, and then we're left with dreck. Habituated action is today, overthinking.

Sometimes it's possible to overthink a situation when the day comes you've been waiting for. When you can take a transformative player, but you're so addicted to stockpiling assets, you bypass the transformative player you need out of habit. This is a sad time to be a celtics fan.

I have no idea how to quantify it (aside from you know, being one of the worst pitching staffs in the league), but Carl Willis and John Farrell are not an effective duo. How they both have jobs at this point with the obvious evidence out there is beyond me.

To me the most significant comments on this entire matter were by Badler on Speier's podcast. You can argue there is wrong doing of some sort, but fine, ok, change should be institutional and not punitive. By that I mean, in the next CBA, talk to guys like Badler, or insiders closer to the goings on and straighten it out. It really is a deflategate all over again situation. This is the scenario where everyone speeds on this one street in town. Rather than going to the town council and getting it sorted out or announcing enforcement is coming to that street, etc. One random dude on that street who sees someone just barreling along gets pissed, knows a cop, and the cop goes and busts that one guy. It's absurd. Completely and utterly absurd. It's backroom deals, witch hunt, axe to grind territory. It's cowardice. "Not even in the top 10 of most egregious behaviors in international signings history in last 10 years." --Badler paraphrase. "Other teams are pissed, there is no precedent for this, and it could open up a whole can of worms by how it was done." --Badler paraphrase Honestly, this is the sort of thing that makes me want to not be a baseball fan anymore. League is rigged and it's obvious, what's next, NBA stuff? Transparent horrible officiating to setup tv market matchups? And then to drop it day before next signing period after the year of relationships, scouting, bonding, etc. all just got destroyed in less than 24 hours. No shot to appeal, no shot to do anything but take it. Again, complete and utter inside work in the MLB offices. The only way this gets made right to Red Sox team and fans in my opinion is if other top flight International Free Agents are allows to void their contracts due to package deals. If Urias is allowed to become a free agent again, etc. Or the Sox get to appeal and get some major recompense, like huge budget for next year or something. But obviously that will never happen in this country, with the systems in place, the money owning the world the way it does. Nothing to see here, move along and keep your head down.

Benintendi having a nice game so far 2-2. I was at the game. It was a really nice atmosphere, with a buzz of people talking about Moncada in the stands. (A couple of us in the stands were trying to figure out who Decker was--I hadn't been reading carefully the last few days). Moncada didn't disappoint defensively. He made a couple of nice diving plays to get outs. He did look fooled at the plate a little bit, but he also seemed a little amped/tight and maybe over-aggressive in his first AA game. Benintendi's double was not hard contact, it was a looping spinning affair down the left field line with so much spin it caromed off into foul ground after landing fair. However, one of his fly outs was well struck to the warning track, so he was making great contact. His at bat in the 7th, I believe it was, was a real battle of fouling off pitch after pitch (I happened to take my mom to the game who is a big baseball fan, and we noticed on one fly ball that was well into foul territory, Benintendi had run all the way to second base--not sure why? no chance it was fair). One young girl did take a foul ball off the shoulder down the third base line and got rushed off quickly, but she was back the next inning with an ice bag on her shoulder and a signed ball. The Sea Dogs really do such a great job there at Hadlock. McAvoy also took a liner off his leg in the 5th, but seemed fine and pitched another frame after that.
