Of 1050 minor leaguers Pedro Castellanos has the 2nd highest opposite field batted ball rate.
Barfield and Dalbec have the lowest oppo rates in the Sox system to far. Dalbec has the 2nd highest Air Ball rate in all of minor league baseball.

Thompson: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HRA. 88-52-5(sw/miss) Should have been out of the 6th without a hit (2B) and run, but Hill overran a fly ball along the foul line.
Dalbec swung 10 times: Fly, Foul, 7 whiffs..... and then homers

Was Salem part of MiLBtv last year or is that new for this year?

Saw reports that in a couple of his games this spring Workman was throwing in the high 80s. Not sure if that that was some random gun or trackman on the video board, but will be interesting to see how he throws early. Someone with the Sox confirmed Hernandez is the move to me a little bit ago.

He's nearly at 2-1 GB to FB this spring. Last spring it was 1.5-1. What about HR/FB though? Would think the combo tells the whole story, right? (and I'm honestly asking for the number, if that's not clear) Sadly hard to find counting numbers like that in the spring, but Travis is strong enough where I'd be more worried about him keeping the ball off the ground in general than looking at HR/FB in Florida. Earlier this spring 2 of his home runs were normal fly balls off Bud Norris which he hit into a gale towards RF that scraped over the wall, Florida is ridiculous.
Last year Travis hit 300 balls in play, 129 were LD+FB, 43%. That sandwiched him between Yoan Aybar and Cole Brannen. Some of the better prospects at hitting the ball in the air last year were Dalbac 59%, Ock 57%, Netzer 56%, Lin 52%, Swihart 52%, Castellanos 50%, Chavis 49%

In his final 80 PA last year Dalbac hit .333/.425/.681 with 9 BB, 9 2B, 5 HR... with a 35% K%. He was awesome all year hitting the ball in the air. Obviously his bat is potent, but major issues to work out. Also, @jnorris427 is tweeting from Sox minor league games today.

Admittedly, I haven't watched any spring training action, but it seems as though Travis may be on to something with his swing. Another HR today. He's nearly at 2-1 GB to FB this spring. Last spring it was 1.5-1.

Today's disastrous results aside, I think this was Beeks' 3rd time on tv this spring and his stuff has been less than impressive imo.

What's weird with those dates is when Bogaerts was hitting well to start the year he had a .268 expected-wOBA with a .383 BABIP, 1% barreled balls. He was hitting the ball like garbage but had a .366 wOBA outcome.
After this injury he was still hitting the ball poorly, .292 expected-wOBA, but the results were not as fortunate, .306 wOBA, .280 BABIP, 2% barreled balls.
He needs to make better contact, healthy or not.

That Herald article seemed to have raised more questions than answers, but Houck told Chris Smith he's now a four-seam, slider, curveball and changeup guy. Also says he got with a nutritionist and is now up to 6'5, 225, after adding 10-15 this winter.

Obviously taken with a grain of salt due to the nature of spring training but I really enjoyed the numbers Kelley/Barnes/Smith put up during innings 4-6 yesterday against PIT (still facing some regulars): 3.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 6K (3 looking), 22 pitches (22 strikes!!!!). More of that please! fwiw MLB.com doesn't do balls and strikes in ST. No matter the count, every out/BIP is counted as 1 pitch, K 3 pitches, walk 4 pitches, etc.

If Devers hits .280/.350/.500 he will join Cesar Cedeno, Ken Griffey Jr., Alex Rodriguez, Albert Pujols, Miguel Cabrera, Justin Upton, Mike Trout x2 as players to do that at 21 or younger since 1960.

I think the Hosmer to SD signing provides a roadmap of what to expect with Martinez. I think he'll sign a similar type of deal with Arizona where they frontload the first few years and make it really low the last two or three years so it becomes a no-brainer to opt out and DH for an AL team. Meanwhile JDM would get his money upfront for the first few years and the opt out would lower the AAV for Arizona. I think unless the Sox raise their offer, JDM is definitely going to Arizona. And like I said in the other thread, Logan Morrison will soon either be a KC Royal or a Red Sox, pending JDM heading to Arizona. Why is Arizona worried about AAV? I thought their problem was immediate cash so they wanted the reverse of what you are suggesting.

So, when — do we cut and run if JD isn’t signed? I think there has to be great value to him being on the team for ST — no? You have to know your teammates and, them, you, before the season starts. If that means you then watch JDM sign for 5/80 with the B’backs, so be it. That's a completely ridiculous "so be it." When you can get a top 5 hitter in all of baseball who cares if he signs tonight, opening day or April 10th as long as you're the last team standing. There should be no reason the Red Sox make bidding close or a pillow contract from someone else seem acceptable. If he signs before 3:59 on the 29th he should be batting cleanup at 4:00.

Hard to find any real redeeming qualities about him in his peripherals or batted ball data. His BABIP and LOB% were abnormal.

Gammons has been pushing Hosmer to the Sox on his site for over a month now using the same bullet points.
