The five-innings for a W rule, AND saves. For the good of the game, both should be abolished. But without saves, how are teams supposed to know which relievers to give way too much money to? You guys are both right. The first guy I remember talking like that was Tony Larussa, not about saves but the 5 innings for a W. But I agree with both. A monkey with a cheat sheet could manage thease days.

Just wanted to highlight this post. I wrongfully though that last weeks 9th inning comeback would stop pointless crap like this, at least for a while, but I guess I was wrong... So here's a tip. Next time you want to call the game over (much less the next game as well)......don't. It's called the reverse jinx, sweetpea. I say that pretty much every time the Red Sox are losing. Plus, I've been around these parts a long time, so I couldn't care less about your advice. I just want to say that it's not just you doing this. Some posters recently are becoming famous for saying whatever comes to their mind, as stupid as it may be, and when they are proven wrong they just say "OOPS, WELL, I'LL HAPPILY EAT MY CROW NOW. I GUESS I JINXED THE BAD THING FROM HAPPENING" How about you instead just call it what it is...crappy posting. Instead of just saying it was a "reverse jinx" or saying you will happily eat your crow, why don't you just try to make better posts?

The Red Sox would be 100 win team in the AL West.

I like these threads. There is reaction, overreaction, no reaction at all. It's better than a thread with no one commenting and no action.

wcp3 and Guidas post some stuff against players and managers. Like it or not, I don't remember either giving much grief to fellow posters.

I just want to say that I'm enjoying this. This is funny. Both the actual game and this thread.

Come on guys. Let's not have a thread about the threads. It is only a game you know.

Excellent pregame piece on NESN regarding Joe Morgan BTW. Nice to see him, of all the Sox managers finally get special mention regarding how magical that 1st season was.
A soft spoken man from those who knew him during his time as a MiLB manager and always a smile on his face with funny stories to tell during ST. Miss him as much as anyone with Boston no longer at WH anymore, including Rac Slider who was another icon to me years ago.

Gomes!
Farrell still doesn't really grasp the concept of pinch hitting, but I'll take it.

See how Farrell just perfectly pinch-hit Gomes for Carp? I wish he would do that with Carp and Napoli on occasion.
(I'm really not a Napoli hater at all - I just hate how Farrell uses him. It wouldn't hurt to give him an occasional day off, PH or drop him down a spot or two in tough matchups.)

Gomes jack city. I haven't ripped on him since his first walk off. Dude has gotten steadily better since June 1ish. Ortiz is right. It shouldn't be called "baseball" it should be called "adjustment."

By the way, as long as we're bringing up dumb things people have said in this thread, anyone still want to defend starting Wright on the basis that Workman has also pitched poorly? Because if this hasn't exactly been the highlight of Workman's career, he's given the team about a million times more than Wright did tonight.
(edit: uggh, talk about your jinxes)
