I honestly do not think he is coming up soon to play third. Xander has been playing a lot of short stop in the minors. You know, the way people talk about it, you'd think moving a shortstop over to third base is akin to Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay scaling Everest for the first time. It's really not that big a deal.

This team need a better 5-hole hitter. Or, again, a manager who can remember that he has Mike Carp on the roster.

My personal opinion really does not matter, but the Red Sox have been talking a lot about how they want Bogaerts to get more in game experience on the defensive side before promoting him. If they were going to promote him as a third baseman, logically they would be getting him the in game experience as a third baseman. I mean, if he is in the minors to get experience playing defense. Would it not make sense to give him experience at the defensive position he would be playing?

Lousy game, but these happen. Tomorrow will probably be a slugfest.

BUt, I was listening to radio and Castiglione tonight. Do you want Napoli vs a righty or Carp vs a lefty? A little tougher to decide when you factor that in.

Bad game to lose, there's now a real chance we lose this series against the Astros. Will the sun come up Thursday if lose 2/3? Houston is 2-4 against Baltimore, 2-5 against TB and 1-4 against us. You can't win em all.

Well, no more LHPs in this series, so I expect to see Brock Holt for now.

Sorry to change the tone of the conversation but I was hoping the Sox would bring up a 3rd baseman tonight to counter the MFY's recent 3rd base call up perhaps symbolizing the direction of our franchises. Whenever this happens does X hit 5th, or is this too much to ask?

Whenever this happens does X hit 5th, or is this too much to ask? Too much. If/when Bogaerts arrives he will initially bat no higher than 7th in the lineup, IMO. For those complaining about the tenor of the game threads, remember the disclaimer at the beginning. THESE are the threads where hyperbole is most tolerated, though we are asked to keep it within limits. I think that the level of angst is a little high myself, but I realize that I view it from the perspective of an old fogey who has been at this fan business for well over half a century. I've come to realize that degree of success in a game, a month, or a season just isn't that much of a big deal. Time will take some of the fanatic out of a fan. And yes, I was much more of a fanatic in my youth.

This team need better 5-9 hole hitters. Fixed. This lineup has so many holes in its lineup after Ortiz. If they have no intention of bringing up Bogaerts in the next two weeks, the Red Sox need to address their obvious need for at least one more hitter. This offense is running on fumes right now and they need to inject some life into it.

Red Sox rank in OPS by batting spot among AL Teams:
5: 7th 6: 3rd 7: 1st 8: 4th 9: 5th
Carp should see more playing time against right-handers, sure. But the idea that the bottom half of the Red Sox lineup is some sort of black hole just doesn't hold up. A .770 OPS from a player in the bottom third is fantastic. We're still spoiled from the days of Bill Mueller batting 8th.

Napoli is so streaky and the AB's he puts up when slumping are hard to watch. I think the K's while ugly are simply the nature of the beast. I think Napoli needs to be in more of a platoon situation with Carp. Not a straight platoon mind you, but Farrell needs to read the tea leaves a bit better when it comes to sitting Napoli , batting him 5th or dropping him in the order for certain games. He's killing this team with RISP while going through his cold spells. The best thing I can say about him is he's seeing a lot of pitches in his better AB's.

Bad game to lose, there's now a real chance we lose this series against the Astros. THIS. THIS & THIS!! Hey we have Wright & Dempster going, so losing one more is a real possibility. I think the Sox looked tired and had a letdown last night. BTW, what has happened to Lackey' s velocity? He was up to 95-96 earlier. Last couple of games he was back at 91-92.

NAPOLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII Bring up Middlebrooks if they don't want to "mess" with Bogaerts because he hasn't played much 3B. Its not ideal cause I'll probably be saying the same thing about him when he Ks but maybe they catch him on a hot streak and ride it out. In an ideal world I think they should bring up Bogaerts...Better approach at the plate that I think he wouldn't be eaten alive and he's a good enough athlete to make plays at 3B. The Napoli reminds me of Mendoza from two years ago I think from the Simpsons. But can you imagine the original deal would of been 3 years . I kept thinking that last night.

Bad game to lose, there's now a real chance we lose this series against the Astros. THIS. OH NOOOO!!!! I completely 2nd the comment that the board becomes unbearable after a night like last night. Relax everyone. The team is not horrendous, the offense isn't in need of a dramatic makeover. Michael Young wouldn't have changed a damn thing last night. If this offense isn't good enough for you, then try cheering on any of the other 29 teams in MLB...all of which have scored less runs than the Sox this year.

If this offense isn't good enough for you, then try cheering on any of the other 29 teams in MLB...all of which have scored less runs than the Sox this year. Runs scored are lovely, fabulous, amazing - and I do believe in their intrinsic value. But you know what's even more valuable on every day that ends with a "y"? Wins. Gotta beat up the weak sisters, esp if you want to avoid the WC playoff. What's wrong with cheering for that? As well as cheering that the Sox don't continue to waste all these great starts by Lackey? And I didn't see any urgent calls for Michael Young in this thread but go ahead and throw up those straw men. They always weaken a point.
