I assume Workman will be ready if anyone reaches. I do not mind Lester starting the 9th. There is a big lead and a guy ready if he is needed.

Well, at least he had a quick hook on him. I didn't like the decision in the first place, though. He's been burned far too many times this year by trying to squeeze an extra inning out of his starter.

So Daniel Nava is now at .340/.436/.468 since the all star break. He has a .402 wOBA in that span. His splits by month are as follows:
May: 276/394/425 June: 290/348/410 July: 270/343/333 Aug: 424/513/576
For the season his line against righties is 312/407/464
Is it safe to say that Nava has in fact NOT been suddenly figured out and in need of a quick replacement? He is a good, solid, productive player and - this may be a shocker - WE KNOW WHO HE IS!!!
...moonstone??? Thoughts???

Great start to the road trip. Lester keeps going out and giving the team a chance to win every 5 days. I like the fact you could see him telling the manager he wanted to finish the game.

Love me some National League baseball. Isn't walking the 8th hitter 2x great strategy? I love to watch me some intentional walks. And, look the pitcher is coming up. Baseball wonders why people are watching other sports. A good place to start would be the 19 century thinking behind that. Double switches! Oh my!! I'm getting excited!!!

Lester is a solid #3 or 4 in our playoff rotation (not sure who starts first, Peavy or Lester) but thats not necessarily true. We're not that far removed from that Arizona game where he got shelled be a below average hitting team. Also, pretty sure you guys are preaching to the choir here with Nava. I actually wouldn't mind seeing him play 1B more if need be.

Agree on Nava. And if they adjusted to him, he adjusted right back.
Nice win last night.

Oh, and how in the heck did that Giants team win the World Series last year? The lineup we saw on the field for them was pretty much the one they rode to their 2nd World Series title in 3 years. WTF?? I think our new motto should be; "If the Giants can do, so can we!!" I know. Not very inspiring.

Daniel Nava shouldn't really be thought of as a switch hitter, but he's a solid major league regular. He just shouldn't bat much against lefties. Stick Gomes in left, Xander at short, and the Sox will at least have a reasonable lineup against lefties.

We're not that far removed from that Arizona game where he got shelled be a below average hitting team. He gave up a bunch of runs in that game, but also had a 6/0 K/BB and got a bunch of ground balls. He's been very solid for a month and a half now, and while he's not a front-end guy anymore, he's also good enough to give me confidence if he faces another team's third or fourth starter in the playoffs.

So, what do we think of Eck? Seems like a clear upgrade over Remdawg to me.

We can cross our fingers and hope that the actual debate is between him and Lackey for #2. (Nor would I write off Doubront as a playoff starter yet.)

Oh I agree with you. I'm just saying he doesn't always give the team a chance to win the game. I was at the Arizona game so I vividly remember him NOT putting the team in a position to win. Giving up 7 runs usually loses the team the game.

This is baseball, it happens to every pitcher. If you only trust pitchers who never have clunkers you only trust ~4 pitchers in the game.

Really enjoyed the game also, though everyone should temper the happiness down some. SF has one of the worst offensive teams around, Lester was pitching in a stadium he'd probably LOVE to pitch in full time and got away with a couple of mammoth blasts that were goners at fenway.
Let's hope that in his mind that didn't come into play. Lester's issues this year (and last) have been at least as much mental over physical and his cutter, at least early on was pretty decent.

Lackey and Buchholz both have been putting the team within reach pretty much everytime they pitch. My point was there was a pretty good stretch where lester was getting hammered every start.

I love the fact that you never know what the hell is going to come out of his mouth (I call it Eckish) and what it means. He also lives/lived in the town I grew up in so that helps too.
