Pinch hitter please. Just like you would in the playoffs.

Never been called a troll before. Am I wrong Fenway that the % of kids playing ball is down? Attendance at the ballparks is down, and TV ratings are down?My concern is real. I hope it's a concern that's off base. Watch Ken Burn's Baseball (which you should do for its own sake) and look at how many people were in the stands for games in the 1950s and 1960s. You'll see many empty seats. BTW, TV Ratings are down for most sports. Mostly, it has to do with the increased number of alternative options available on TV. 40 years ago, when the World Series Ratings spiked, there really was not much else on TV. Now, there are tons of cable options, not to mention on demand, Netflix, apple TV, HBOgo, ect... Thanks for a thoughtful reply. Some good points. Baseball has always had it's ups and downs but it was by far the most popular sport in the 50's and 60's. I mentioned the decline was do to many things. TV choices are many now. But the population has also doubled since the decades you mentioned. So maybe % of people is a better way to look at it. Football, pro and college kill baseball in ratings. Basketball beats baseball head to head most of the time. Soccer is being played by more kids than baseball. TV ratings still lag but are growing not declining. Heck, golf beats Saturday baseball on fox most weeks in the ratings.

A win tonight would be huge, and it would be the epitome of the 2013 Red Sox season.
Let's go!

Game on the line but we'll go with Drew against the lefty.
ADDED: Really, John? This is how you play it with an over flowing bench? And how you'll play it in the playoffs?

No pinch hitting for Drew against a Lefty? What a fucking dumb move. The guy is hitting like .190 against lefties and we've now hit FOUR double plays today.

Freaking Rangers. One strike away from victory they blow the lead. I think the Rays will win and wind up being the Sox opponent.
Meanwhile I have no idea why they didn't pinch-hit for Drew with Bogaerts. Were they that afraid that Showalter would go to a righty? Wouldn't Bogaerts vs righty be preferable to Drew vs lefty?
The Sox are trying to throw this game away with all these wasted opportunities.

Game over. Horrible decision to let Drew hit. Worse decision to let Morales come back out.

So much for this game. The Red Sox bullpen depth is atrocious. There's Koji, Breslow, and sometimes Tawaza. That's about it. Everybody else is a major question mark.

Game over. Horrible decision to let Drew hit. Worse decision to let Morales come back out. As much as it may anger people, Drew is going against lefties or righties in the playoffs. Better to keep getting at bats now when these games dont really matter at this point.

I wonder if Farrell will tell Cherry to sign Drew to a 7 year extension.

Can someone tell me what in the world Pedroia was doing lined up like that against Davis?
Bases are loaded, Napoli can play off first.
Those two runs are on him IMO. That should have been an easy out.

Remember that one time Drew got a hit against a left?
No literally, I think it was only once.

Better to keep getting at bats now when these games dont really matter at this point. Automatic out against lefties. Sometimes 2 outs when there are runners on (double play). And of course the game matters, we're battling for home field and still havent closed out the division yet. Are you kidding?

With the way Tillman has pitched against the Sox, the Sox might be looking at getting swept by the O's. This series has seems to be the natural cooling off of the Sox who had been playing out of their minds the past three weeks.
I prefer they cool off a little now rather than later. The good news is that these games have been very competitive. The Sox haven't been out of a game in quite awhile. I feel like the Sox should have had the last two games. I still think Koji's triple given up should have been caught and the Sox had three innings where bringing around the leadoff man would have meant the game and it didn't happen.
My other concern is: Is Victorino alright? Otherwise I have no idea why the overmatched Jackie Bradley was pinchhitting. The only guy I could see him PHing for would be Berry.

We are literally going to lose a big game at some point this year cause Drew bats against a lefty.
We've been lucky so far that we haven't had any huge games yet.

While Farrell could have done better, he hardly cost us the game.

The only reason I can make to myself even of having Drew hit against lefties? An excuse, or shows potential suitors he wasn't strictly a platoon player and it was justifiable the team offered him a QO after the season.
The team almost assuredly will, Farrell seems to be in love with this guy as terrible of swings as he has vs most all LH pitchers. Not saying Bogaerts would be a sure fire cure, though even playing him in half of the starts vs LH pitchers would probably give the team a better chance. Drew's lethargic LH swings won't be missed by advance scouts from potential playoff opponents and both Farrell and the FO had better wake up to reality quick.

They held the O's scoreless for a while. This one's on Farrell. I'm not complaining about the cumulative bullpen. I'm complaining about the lack of quality depth behind the big 3. It reminds me of Game 2 of the 2008 ALCS when the Sox ran out of quality options in the pen and was down to Timlin who was a batting practice pitcher by then while Tampa kept running out quality options. If the Sox use up the Big 3, then there's very little change the Sox will survive beyond them and there's a good chance this problem could trip them up in the post-season. This is why it stinks that Bailey is down for the year (although that might be a break as it opened up the closer's role for Koji) and it stinks that Miller is out for the season and it's why I would have liked to have seen the Sox get another arm whether it was dealing for Lindstrom (to be fair I have no idea what the cost would have been) or taking a chance on Brian Wilson, and it's also why I'm disappointed that De La Rosa never found the strike zone consistently enough in AAA to be an option as I hoped he would. My last hope here is that Doubront who seems hesitant about being in the bullpen can figure out his recent problems and become a quality bullpen option.

Better to keep getting at bats now when these games dont really matter at this point. I agree this will happen by why SHOULD it happen? I would think the Sox would choose Bogaerts on the post-season roster over McDonald so he'd be available to hit lefties and I don't think he'd be an automatic out against righties, so the Bogaerts option would still be there.
